Martyn Warren posted a statusThe Green Lantern an iconic superhero with the likes of Superman and Batman, an intergalactic policeman with an incredibly powerful
ring, and a man who can overcome fear. When I heard they were making a Green
Lantern movie the thought of “FINALLY!” came to mind, but after seeing the
trailer that was put out last week, I’m starting to regret that “finally”. Let’s face it this was not the tone that most
people thought the movie was going to go, what Cyrus said on the League of Extremely
Ordinary Gentlemen was right, it’s Wally West playing Hal Jordan. With so much material to choose from like the
current Geoff Johns run on the Green Lantern, the film would seriously benefit
from it being in similar tone with that run. Instead of what seems to be humorous like I don’t
know say the Iron Man movies, but who knows maybe it will start out that way
and turn into something a bit more serious and slightly darker by the end of
the film. Clearly it could go that route
with Martin Campbell helming just look at Casino Royale, he can show us a
character with depth that we feel for.
The dialogue was just awful, Blake Lively who did a damn good job in The
Town, did about a complete 180 from what I heard from her in the trailer, and
honestly it boggles my mind because she proved to me that she can act! Now the tone and bad dialogue aside the
biggest gripe about this trailer is the horrible CG the suit looks like Ryan Reynolds
wrapped in green cellophane. The alien Lanterns like Kilowog, Tomar Re, and
Sinestro need some definite tweaking, although the effects look bad I’m more
than confident they are not done with it and will look much better once the
film is released. Like what happened with the first Iron Man movie
trailer. With all that said I do have
faith in Martin Campbell I have faith in Ryan Reynolds, but I do not have faith
in the movie…at least for right now.
