'Thor: The Dark World' Casts Second Villain

It looks like Thor is really going to have his hands full in his second cinematic adventure. Not too long ago, Christopher Eccleston was cast as Malekith the Accursed in the upcoming Marvel second wave film 'Thor: The Dark World.' There have also been rumblings that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) may turn up in the sequel as well to again cause trouble. As if that weren't enough, it looks like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will now also have to contend with both Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and...Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje? That's right, 'Lost's Mr Eko himself will be playing two villains in the movie: Algrim the Strong and Kurse. In the comics, Algrim was the most powerful of the dark elves, but was gravely injured after being tricked by Malekith to fight Thor. After his defeat, he is healed and becomes an even more powerful being called Kurse. The sequel has begun shooting in London.

Sounds like a pretty badass character. Again, not being well-versed in the comics I don't know all the particulars of Algrim/Kurse, but I like the idea of two villainous persona housed within one character. I also like that Kurse emerges from the lava pit with a bad case of amnesia after his betrayal so he can continue to serve Malekith. My guess however is that he'll eventually regain his memory, turn on Malekith, and thereby give Thor the opportunity to smite him with Mjolnir. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is a fantastic actor who has appeared in more movies than it would be reasonable to list in one post. He usually plays a heavy, mostly because of his imposing stature and presence, but he's also capable of pulling off more complex performances with ease. I think the one-two combo of Eccleston and Akinnuoye-Agbaje, the latter being a one-two punch all on his own, will make formidable foes for Thor and hopefully allow for some exciting fight sequences.

What do you guys think? Excited Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is coming aboard? Still trying to figure out how to pronounce his name?

As a fanboy, I hope this continues Mavels long-running success rate. After this, I'm looking forward to a Hulk movie featuring Mark Ruffalo in the lead. Perhaps Tim Nelson can come back as the Leader and we can get a movie verson of Peter David's excellent "Ground Zero" storyline.

I can get behind this. In the first movie, they adapt Jack Kirby's version of Thor, most notably with the Destroyer. Now it appears to be Walt Simonson's turn. Of course, they already used the Casket of Ancient Winters as a plot device, so I'm curious to see where this one will turn. Hopefully this will join the ranks of Blade II, X-Men United, Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight as a sequl that lives up to (and improves upon) the first movie. -- (I would include Iron Man 2 in that list, but as good as Iron Man 2 was, it was slightly inferior to that first Iron Man movie.)

God Dammit! First Idris Elba and now HIM! Stop casting my pics for Black Panther in side roles and just make the damn movie! No body gives a CRAP about Red Falcon!

So long as the script remains tight I can't see how this movie can go wrong. The cast is as solid as it gets so far.

This guy was my pick for Black Panther, but I'm still exited. I'm glad he's doing something. I think he'll do great. I'm getting really exited about Thor 2 over all.

He was someone I thought could've also played Black Panther.

@Prince Raw D

To me he'll always be Adebisi, the last man on Earth you want to be your cell mate.

Still trying to figure out how to properly pronounce his name...until that day comes, he shall be referred to as that cool guy from the Mummy Returns

I mean, the original battle between the two had him involved so... This could be a way to introduce him right?
