Well, actually, it's passe to even refer to it as 'Thor 2' at this point. At last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel unveiled that the title of their return to Asgard, and its hammer-wielding, flaxen-haired champion, would be 'Thor: The Dark World.' Catchy title, right? But what does it mean? We all know that the Thor universe is divided into nine realms, or nine worlds...some of them indeed harboring dark or otherwise unsavory creatures. So, to which dark world would the title be referring? Learning that would ultimately clue us in as to who the villain would be. Well, it looks like the secret may have been spoiled by, of all people, one of the film's stuntmen. Here's what he said in a recent interview...
"The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on 'Thor 2.' I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it."
Ok, so if the director, 'Game of Throne's Alan Taylor, was speaking of literal elves, the most likely antecedent for 'The Dark World,' is Svartalfheim, the realm populated by sinister elves. If they are exploring this realm, which would make sense, then it's likely that the main villain will be Malekith the Accursed. If this is the case, I'm even sorrier that Mads Mikkelsen ('Casino Royale') left the project recently, he would have killed in that role...figuratively speaking. However, there is the possibility that Taylor was instituting some kind of physical exercise to loosen up his stuntmen and get them thinking outside the box. Sort of like when they used to make us be statues in acting class. Don't ask. However, it seems entirely likely that a fantasy buff like Taylor would be attracted to the prospect of evil elves.
What do you guys think? Will the dark elves and Malekith be our baddies? Who should they now cast for Malekith?

Well it was a quote from one of the stuntmen so it's not hard to believe he'd be unfamiliar with elves.
