Happy New Years to everybody here on spill. So I guess it's that time of the year again; where I have to round up my "Top 10". But instead of doing it the typical way, I'm gonna do mines the good'ole way. Unfortunately, some movie critics have started from Top 25. But because I am ThePecker13, I decided to start from top 13. My lucky number. That's right, and it'll be like this every year from now on.
But besides from movies, I do want to review a little of sports in 2OO8. No, I did not watch the Olympics, and
Michael Phelps has gotten my last nerves already. In the NFL, I'm glad the
Cowboys, and
Patriots aren't going to the playoffs this season (Sorry spill crew knowing that you guys are from Texas. But I really hate the
Cowboys...And the cheating
Patriots). Now I don't have to worry about those two teams winning the super bowl. And as a
Packers fan here, I'm so glad that
Bret Favre choked at the end, and realized how much of a prick he really is. F%@KN DOUCHE-BAG. My hopeful picks for the Super Bowl:
Arizona Cardinals vs
Miami Dolphins with the
Dolphins winning the Super Bowl. Gotta root for the underdogs.
I'm not going to get into
NBA,
MLB, and the
NHL because all of my teams have choked as well this year. One of them at the NBA finals, the other one in the NL championship division, and my other team that haven't even made the playoff since 2002 due to stingy owners & stupid management (But then again, my city doesn't give a shit about hockey. But then again, who does beside those canuckers up north!?).
Now lets begin with with My Top 13 movies of 2008. Now, I got a lot of sh8t last year because the movies that you people loved did not make my list. But please don't come on here, and tell me "What about this movie?"; "What about that movie?". Please don't. Go make your own list; then I'll go, and judge your sh!t. It's called being "
Unique" people. And yes, my grammar sucks. I know. I'm working on it :-).
Sorry about that, but it can be really annoying sometimes. I really don't have much to say about these films because it's already been said; so in the words of Mr.J this year... And hereee weee GO!
My Top 13 Movies of 2OO8
#13
American Teen

*A very under-rated documentary about 5 teens, and their last year of high school. Well, not going to be everybody's cup of tea here, But what I liked about this movie is the they made it felt so real even though we all know that high school really isn't really much like this. To be honest here, and not many will agree here, I feel that we can somewhat relate to some of these characters here weather you like it or not. Megan's a bitch, but I'd still do her.
#12
Forgetting Sarah Marshall

*Probably one of my favorite
Judd Apatow films of all time, and a wonderful comedic performance by
Russell Brand, who steals the show in the entire movie
#11
Tropic Thunder

*
Robert...
Downey...
Jr. That's all I have to say
#10
The Wackness

*Can I really ignore a movie where Josh Peck is trading therapy sessions from Ben Kingsley for pot? Yes, I know how much of a downhill has "Sir" Ben has gone, but this movie can at least show us that there a little hope to his career as he gives a really great performance in this film that was written, and directed by
Jonathan Levine(
Mandy Lane).
#9
In Bruges

*What we all feared for... The return of the "
irish bad boy"
Colin Farrell. Well, at least he made something worth watching this time. But sadly, only the Golden Globes will be able to recognize this great movie for what it is. Crossing my fingers, hoping some sort of miracle will happen :-)
#8
Boy A

*Depressing? Yes. Underrated? Yes. But Overall, a great film. Although, the cinematography was great. I did like about the movie is how they capture the scenes, and show the emotions of each characters. Like this one scene in the beginning of the movie, which I'm not going to give away.
#7
The Visitor

*This movie that made me want to play the bongos. But overall, a great dramatic movie.
Richard Jenkins deserves to get all of the attention he's getting for his role.
#6
The Wrestler

*The movie that certainly pissed off
Vince McMahon, and that gave such huge comebacks for both
Mickey Rourke, and
Darren Aronofsky.
Note: After seeing
The Wrestler,
Vince McMahon took a cheap shot at Mickey Rourke's face while showing off his cheap merchandises at WWEShop by calling it "leathery". Because that's pretty much true, Vince is just mad because he didn't think of it first. Just sayin'.
#5
Frozen River

*A Stand out performance from
Melissa Leo(
21 Grams), and
Misty Upham. It tells a great story about a little town between the borders of New York, and Quebec borders. And it's a wonderful written script by
Courtney Hunt.
#4
Milk

*At first, I really couldn't buy
Sean Penn as the gay activist
Harvey Milk. Why? because he never plays a very likeable character like the spill crew said. Also, we can't forget the supporting cast by
James Franco, who does a great job, and
Josh Brolin, who's character get develope really well into the transaction from a normal human being to becoming a bad guy.
#3
Slumdog Millionaire

*Bollywood movie by
Danny Boyle, who gave us
28 Days Later..., and
Trainspotting, is a brilliant film that was well told. Here hoping it wins best adapting screenplay.
#2
Frost/Nixon

*Downright tensive, and gritty performances by
Frank Langella, and
Michael Sheen. Let us not forget the supporting cast in this film. If my #1 film would have not came out this year, This would have been my #1 film this year. But...
and the obvious...
#1
The Dark Knight

*What can I say that hasn't already been said. Not only one of the best films of the year, but one of the best films of this decade. Stupid in the Academy of Motion Pictures does not give them Best Picture. Nominated TDK will be ratings giant since the Academy is desperately lacking off. At first, I disagreed with it because I felt that too many people were feeling sympathy for
Heath Ledger. But after seeing it, This is as close as we will ever get to a very memorable movie in this decade. If you look at those films that have gotten nod for Golden Globes, How many of those will people remember in the next 6 months?! Anybody?! This is the "
Heat", and "
Clockwork Orange" version of a
Batman movie.
Also, I created another list called "
My Guiltiest Pleasure of 2OO8". In this category, these are movies that I liked, but was either planning on putting it to my top 13 list until i made up my mind, or, movies that where hammered by critics but I still managed to love.In hoping to start a trend here, My guiltiest pleasures of 2OO8 are...
My Guiltiest Pleasures of 2OO8

Zombie Strippers

*A movie about zombies... AND STRIPPERS!? This movie was Awesome. Thanks Co-Host for recommending it.
-
Twilight

*Yes, I fuckn' liked it. So what?! I only saw it because of:
a) I'm a fan of
Catherine Hardwicke, who gave us "
Thirteen"(one of my favorite films) & "
Lords of Dogtown".
&
b) Anna Kendrick (
*ding*) &
Nikki Reed (
*ding*).
Twilight is the new porn for me.
-
Sex Drive

*Just ridiculously funny.
-
Hamlet 2

*Seriously, I don't know whats wrong with people not liking this, but i thought it was a good & funny movie. Though, I got to handed to
Pam Brady for attempting to do her first film without the South Park guys.
-
Rambo

*HELL YEAH!!! MUTHAF%CKNG RAMBO MAN!!!
and as always, we can't end the year with "
The Worst Films of 2OO8". Just wanna let you know... I did not see "
The Love Guru", and I saw some of these for free screening, or, attended the movie premiere for free. And the nominees for...
The Worst Films of 2OO8
10.
Funny Games

* One word for ya:
BOOOOOOOOOORING!
9.
The Spirit

*Why
Frank Miller? Why? Why did you had to utterly rape your own creation like you did with
RoboCop 3; a sequel that I don't even want to remember right now but not so sure why I brought it up. Though, the only good thing about this is that I got to attend the premiere, and was so close to
Scarlett Johansson (HA! Take that
Cyrus).
8.
Max Payne

Why does
Max Payne looks like a rip off the 2004
Punisher film? And why did he look like if there was s... stuck between he's hole around the end of the film? He should have just wiggled, but those are answers thaI'llll never know.
7.
10,000 B.C.

*Once, their was somebody by the name of
Roland Emmerich. He made films that I like:
Stargate, and Independence Day(In which I've seen 167 times. Don't have to believe me ya know). But somewhere along the road, he started making crap, and gave us this piece of sh8t, Jurassic Park wannabe of a movie. I lost my hopes up for 2012 already.
6.
The Hottie and the Nottie

*Joel David Moore...Why?Why? And I laugh at the fact that
Paris Hilton is playing the some-type of a girl next door thing. HA! She's not even that hot. She's looks a Florida dutch pig.
5.
Prom Night

*Why was there a need for a crappy remake? And what happend to those lovely breast the
Jessica Stroup had in this movie? Co-Host movie version is better.
4.
College

*Another wannabe
"SuperBad/Revenge of the Nerds/Animal House/American Pie/ Whatever other teen film that I can't think off right now" that this movie hazardously raped, molested, and ripped off at.
SPOILER ALERT: There's is no way, not in a parallel universe that a really, really, reeeaaally hot blonde chick that looks like this...

Will ever, ever, eeeeeeeeeeevvvvvveeeeeerrrrrrr F%@K a poor man's version of
Jonah Hill,
John Candy look-a-like that looks like this...

If you claim that it's had happened before, then your only lying to yourself. And if anybody even cares, that hot blonde girl played "Hooker #2" in
Artie Lange's "
Beer League".
3.
Disaster Movie

*It's a TOTAL DISASTER(HA! I'm beinpunyny here)
2.
Over Her Dead Body

*A piece of s... movie that come to show you that
Jason Biggs will always be known as a pie f%@ker. And who said that
Eva Longoria can be a leading lady in a film?! You ubber-bitch. Go back to you tacos & burritos seniorita.
1.
Meet The Spartans

*No, I don't want to Meet The Spartans. Never, ever, eva!
Obvios choices for my worst list.
Well, that's it. My Best, My Guiltiest, and My Worst movies of 2OO8.
Til next time, hoping that 2009 will be at least better than 2008. See ya.
