thejon93rd's Top 3 Action Films of All-Time!

Now, before I start this list, I want to talk a bit about the upcoming 'Robocop' movie. Now, some of you may be wondering: "Why in the sweet Jesus is this guy talking about the new 'Robocop' movie?" And the reason is because that I completely loved the original film with Peter Weller as Alex Murphy/Robocop. And once I heard that they were remaking it, and they actually have a great director(Darren Aronofsky; 'The Wrestler', 'Requiem for a Dream', etc.) attached, that was a nice relief. Knowing that this wouldn't be another Hollywood fuck-up. And, if it turns out be bad, to be proud knowing that they tried by not just throwing some half-assed script together and making a movie(Michael Bay). Anyhow, here's hoping for this upcoming 'Robocop' movie to excel.

#3 ~ 'Robocop':

'Robocop' Theatrical Trailer:

Speaking of 'Robocop', on this particular list, 'Robocop' is #3. Now, this was one of the first films I've ever seen which provided a strong blend of dark-comedy and violent-action. This movie is so violent, but it hits you off-guard in the first 10-20 minutes(or so) of the film when Clarence and his crew shot the shit out of Murphy. This scene alone got me jumping with terror, it seems so rediculous that Murphy could somehow survive this whole wave of shotgun blasts, until being shot in the head by Clarence that is. Clarence, by the way, is one of my favourite villains of all-time. He does such evil-things, and yet, he brings this charm and wit to these deeds as well. The action sequences that take place in this film are fantastic. But what really drives them, for me, is the score. Especially during the warehouse/drug-bust scene, really a great action movie score. In closing, if you haven't seen this film: go out, rent it, buy it. It's totally worth it. I'd buy that for a dollar.

#2 ~ 'Die Hard':

'Die Hard' Theatrical Trailer:

Now, here's the film that introduced me to comedy, adventure and action. I'm talking about 'Die Hard', starring Bruce Willis as John McClane. Now, looking back at this one as a stand-alone film, it's understandable that any guy could be put in this kind of situation. But, looking at his resume, it has just gotten more and more so crazier for this man that he had outta given up by now and just tell himself: "Okay John, tomorrow we'll go out to the coast, get together, blast a few terrorists." But, let's just forget that shit, because we're talking about 'Die Hard'. This film is just jam-packed with a whole-bunch of characters that you can just simply "like". From McClane, down to Ellis, all the way down to the fuckin' terrorists themselves. And that's what makes this movie appealing, every character matters. There's none of that bullshit where they have some "Chris Tucker" esque sidekick, because no one's given that role. Everyone has their sizzle and spice in this film, and the entire cast makes the most of it. And Hans Gruber played by Mr. Alan Rickman remains to this day to be my favourite action-movie villain of all-time. Just as John McClane/Bruce Willis stands in my books for being one of the best action stars, alongside: Clint Eastwood('Dirty Harry'), Slyvester Stallone('First Blood'), etc. If you love action films, this is one of those films that you should own. And hell, I'd even recommend you picking up the 'Die Hard Collection', because all of the films are entertaining, at the very least. But 'Die Hard' is undoubtably the best of the bunch(franchise-wise).

Honourable Mentions:
Before giving you the #1 action film, I just wanna give you some "Honourable Mentions" beforehand, and I'd recommend that you should definitly check out some of these films: 'Predator', 'First Blood', 'Rambo(2007)', 'Speed', 'The Terminator', 'Mission: Impossible 3', 'Man on Fire', 'Lethal Weapon', 'Drunken Master', 'Goldfinger', 'Casino Royale', 'The Empire Strikes Back', 'Hard-Boiled', 'The Road Warrior', 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', 'Aliens' and there are just so many others that it's impossible to list. If you have picks, please post them. But now... THE NUMBER ONE SPOT!...

#1 ~ 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day':

'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' Theatrical Trailer:

This was the obvious choice, on my part, to list as #1. 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' is one of those movies where if you see the trailer(above) you'd just expect another generic action movie/sequel. But no, this one's way deeper than that. When I saw this film for the first time, it totally hit me off-guard, with being compared to the original, as in this one's less of a horror movie, but with keeping the thrills defined by it's predecessor, and the sense of the chase and fear with being followed by a ruthless, virtually indestructible, killing machine. Of course, I'm talking about the T-1000. The creation that redefined and ultimately paved the way we see visual effects today. This was the best role that Arnold Schwarzenegger has ever taken and remains to this day to be the best "machine becoming a man" performances ever. The action in this is great, the characters in this are great, the visual effects are great. Every aspect of a great action film is here, and yet, there's just so much more. 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' is the best action film I have ever seen.
