Uhhhhhh, here once again your friend Mr. Burn Notice. Yep that's how I'm going to start this blog. I'm a guy. You might be also a guy (reading this I doubt it). Now you can probably guess I was dragged to see this movie by my girl and guy's all around the country were probably too. We (guys) sit through these movies for "future benefits", if you know what I mean. Now if you couldn't guess, this movie is a chick flick ( a romantic comedy to be more exact). Now I can sit through chick flicks, I actually can. I have no problem doing so. A little piece of advice to you guys for ways to get through a chick flick, is to turn the movie into something you enjoy. You know in your mind, poke fun at it, make a little side story of the characters, anything that's creative. The whole point of this, is in some way for you to enjoy it. And if you enjoy it in some way, guess who's going to love you even more. Now that I just gave away some of my secrets, let's get to the actually review.

Abby (Katherine Heigl's) is a producer of a boring morning news show with failing ratings. We find out she is single and is unable to find that "perfect" man. We also find out that she is controlling and critical to every guy she goes out on a date with. After failing on another date, she accidentally turns on Access Television show called "The Ugly Truth" starring Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler). After watching a few minutes of the show and hating him for his distaste of women actions against men, she calls the show. A conversation where Mike rips her for trying to find a guy that doesn't exist and tells her that she's probably alone right now. The next day Abby walks into a meeting to find out that Mike has been hired to boost ratings.
The next 20 minutes of the film is pretty simple, the ratings go up on Abby's show, they go back and forth about their difference in opinions about relationships and finally, the actually plot kicks in which Abby meets her neighbor and wants to get with him. Gerard Butler's character offer his services and... this is where the movie starts to bore me to hell. Another hour goes by and you have watched a movie that is just like
every other chick flick.
So it took me just two paragraphs to explain this movie. First I will give one positive thing about this movie before I rip it to shreds. Gerard Butler. He is the only reason this movie is somewhat funny. Only in the scenes he is in are funny. The reason is... he is just like every other guy. He talks the truth of what guys are really like. But of course that changes in the second half of this movie.
Now to the ripping. The movie drags on and that's hard to do for a movie that is less than 100 minutes. This movie is rated R, but this movie could have easily have passed off as a PG-13 film. The reason that is a negative, because I expect a rated R comedy to do things that a PG-13 can't do, in which this movie didn't. The movie lacks laugh out loud jokes and there are too many points where the movie isn't funny at all. Most of the side characters have no point of being there and some of the characters are even wasted. Lastly, there is a scene in this movie where they blatantly rip off
When Harry Met Sally. Yea I'm not kidding. Change some of the scenery, change the characters, get rid of Rob Reiner's mother and you got almost the same scene.
So I give this movie a
rental. There is no point to seeing this movie in the theaters. Gerard Butler is the only part of this movie that I liked. I hope to see him do another comedy, just stay away from these type of films. This movie uses one of the chick flick formulas (yea that's right there is more than one); girl meets guy, girl hates guy, girl befriends first guy, girl meets another guy, girl does unrealistic things to get the guy, girl loses guy, girl ends up with guy she originally hated. A complete formula. O sorry if I ruin the film. You know what I change my rating and I give it
Some ol' Bullshit. If you are a girl, fine this movie is for you, but guys stay away.
Thank you for reading, please comment and of course this message was brought to you by a frustrated...
