Let's jump into the best episode of the week

And this week's pick is the long-awaited return of Mad Men, the two part fifth season premiere, "A Little Kiss".

Don finds his new marriage to Megan strained when she throws him a surprise party for his 40th birthday. Pete chafes at Roger's continual efforts to attach himself to Pete's accounts, and fights back by arguing he deserves Roger's larger office. Joan, now on maternity leave after giving birth to her and Roger's son Kevin, deals with her sharp-tongued mother and increased worries that her position at the firm will be filled. A wallet left in a taxicab leads Lane to contemplate an affair.

It's so great to see all these characters again as it's been way too long since we've seen them and Mad Men came back incredibly strong, just as strong as they ended Season 4 at.

I found all of the storylines very compelling and interesting and I'm glad to see that this great series has returned just as strong as it has been.

I think this Facebook comment I made said it best about Mad Men:

"Mad Men, one of the greatest shows ever, has finally returned."

FRIDAY:

Fringe (Season 4, Episode 15)
"A Short Story About Love"

Episode Plot:

Following the recent shocking revelations and emotional events, Peter weighs his options as the Fringe team investigates a killer targeting love.

Review:

Like with a lot of shows this year, I haven't been keeping up with Fringe a lot this year but with the episodes I have seen, the show is just as great as it has been and this week's episode was no exception.

I was very inveseted in the story and the impacts that appears on all the characters. I also liked the subtle way the episode plays out. It's a really good episode. 5/5

SATURDAY:

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (Season 2, Episode 22)
"Hurricane Fluttershy"

Episode Plot:

Fluttershy struggles to overcome her fear of public humiliation so she can help Rainbow Dash and the other pegasi create a tornado powerful enough to lift the water required for rainy season in the cloud-producing city of Cloudsdale.

Review:

This is one of the show's perfect episodes. Everything about it works and works really well. The story's great, the way the characters act are nicely portrayed, the outcome's well done, and it's just an overall great episode.

I really like the way they went with the story. The main purpose of the episode is for Fluttershy to overcome her fears of humiliation to create enough tornado power to push water into Cloudsdale and for Rainbow Dash to break a record with the tornado. The outcomes for both of them don't take the similiar cliche in kids shows where everything the characters hope to have happen actually happens. Not everything happens according to plan but it does happen in a way that's very realistic and believeable.

And that's why this is a perfect episode. It teaches a good leason, has a good story, and the outcome does pay off and like I said, it's a great episode. 5/5

Dan Vs. (Season 2, Episode 9)
"The Wedding"

Episode Plot:

Upset that the girl he loves is getting married, Dan cons his way into the wedding party and attempts to ruin the wedding from within.

Review:

I really enjoyed this episode a lot, it's kind of interesting to see that Dan, a character you love but hate at the same time, actually have a soft spot. Something you'd never expect to see about this character and the episode pulls that off very well. The jokes could've been a little better but the way the story plays out works to its' advantage. 4/5

The Aquabats Super Show (Season 1, Episode 4)
"Laundry Day"

Episode Plot:

Following a messy encounter with a gang of muck monsters at the city dump, The Aquabats head to their local laundromat to get their outfits cleaned. Unbenknownst to the band, the laundromat has been commandeered by the evil Dr. Eva Mudlark, a disgruntled scientist who creates monsters out of dirt and garbage, who seeks revenge against The Aquabats for destroying her muck beasts. Guest starring Kate Towne as Dr. Eva Mudlark, Art Mitchell as Trusty Dusty, and Warren Fitzgerald as Hobo #1.

Review:

I thought the episode was pretty good, a lot of really good moments, some funny jokes, and a decent payoff. 3.5/5

MONDAY:

Smash (Season 1, Episode 8)
"The Coup"

Episode Plot:

The creative team deals with what happens after the workshop of Marilyn; Derek asks Karen to help him take the show from the writers; Eileen's daughter (Grace Gummer) makes a surprise visit.

Review:

Okay, I've stuck by this show through all of its' faults and have still enjoyed it a lot. Last week's episode was my favorite one since the pilot.

That being said, this week's episode was the most pointless episode ever. By the end of the episode, nothing changes except for something that happens in the last 5 minutes. So, I walked out of this episode feeling underwhelmed.

The day after I watched the episode, I read this article on TVLinetalking about the problems with the first season and what's the plan to fix them.

Reading that, all I kept thinking to myself is, "Oh shit, Heroes and Glee both went through the same thing." And as we all know, those turned out "great" after their first season.

So, I don't know where this show is going to go now but here's hoping that it doesn't go down the same path of Heroes and Glee. This week's episode was entirely pointless and offered nothing we weren't expecting at all. 2/5

TUESDAY:

New Girl (Season 1, Episode 18)
"Fancyman, Part 2"

Episode Plot:

Jess and Russell go on their first date, but Jess feels uncomfortable afterward, when Russell gives her mixed signals about their relationship. Nick's old college roommate Dirk (Martin Starr) visits, encouraging Nick to date younger female college students. Winston finally gets the nerve to tell Shelby how he feels about her. Also, Winston finds out about Schmidt and Cece's relationship.

Review:

A very funny episode, not quite as strong as last week's show. Thought Martin Starr was pretty good and Dermot Mulroney wasn't too bad either. 3/5

THURSDAY:

Community (Season 3, Episode 13)
"Digital Exploration Of Interior Design, Part 1"

Episode Plot:

A new Subway shop opens in the cafeteria, and Shirley, Pierce, and Britta attempt to sabotage it. Vice Dean Laybourne returns to try to win Troy over. Troy and Abed build competing blanket forts.

Review:

Community just continues to impress the hell out of me. It's amazing how this show can continuious make me laugh with every episode that comes after another.

I'm glad that they brought back John Goodman because I think he's very funny on the show when he's on and this week was no exception.

The jokes are once again top-notch and what I expect to see from Community and the setups are nicely done and I'm really looking forward to see how next week's episode concludes this story. 5/5

30 Rock (Season 6, Episode 15)
"The Shower Principle"

Episode Plot:

Jack (Baldwin) must come up with an idea that will impress Hank Hooper (Ken Howard) and transform KableTown, while Liz (Fey) tries her best to stick with a new hobby and prove she's a new woman. Jenna (Jane Krakowski) believes she's cursed and Hazel's (Kristen Schaal) obsession with Liz continues. Tracy (Tracy Morgan) signs on to do a new movie in order to pay his unexpectedly high taxes.

Review:

This is just a meh episode. There's nothing really good or bad about it, it's just somewhere in the middle. 30 Rock's seriously been more miss than hit this year and I'm wondering why that is. The first five years were really funny but this year, it's like they aren't trying as hard as they should be trying. 3/5

Up All Night (Season 1, Episode 22)
"Letting Go"

Episode Plot:

Amy's walking for the first time; Ava's new dog affects Reagan and Ava's chances at getting Stevie Nicks to appear on the Ava show. Chris joins a younger hockey league which may be a bit to much for him.

Review:

An overall decent episode with some good funny moments and good acting from the main three. I also thought Stevie Nicks was effectively used here as well. 4/5

Awake (Season 1, Episode 5)
"Oregon"

Episode Plot:

Detective Britten suddenly becomes a suspect in his own case when an FBI agent, Santoro (Megan Dodds), questions his methods of tracking down a serial killer thought to be dead. Meanwhile, in the wake of her son's death, Hannah is finding comfort in exploring the possibility of moving to Oregon and going back to school.

Review:

This episode is just another reason why Awake is one of the strongest new shows that have aired this season. Jason Issacs, once again, is top-notch here and the stories his character is going through this week were both well-handled and well played out.

People, you've got to watch this show, it's one of the best new shows that's on TV this season and it's getting dogged big time in the ratings. NBC desperately needs a good Thursday night drama and they've got it but it's not getting the ratings that it deserves. So, I'm beggin you people, please, PLEASE start watching this show. 5/5
