I know the first game you either liked it or hated it, I never met someone who was on the fences about it, but once AC2 came along, it really opened people up to the story, not only cause the game play but Ezio was such a likable character, the man was mostly the James Bond of the Italian Renaissance.
Well enough of me running about about the series. Let's get to this... Fuck you of a game. As you can already see I'm not the best of moods about how I feel about this game. I'M NOT GOING TO SPOIL ANYTHING, this is a review of how I feel about the GAMEPLAY.
First things first, this game uses a upgraded engine of the older games, but I got to say, it doesn't make this game better. Yeah you can climb tress, hunt animals, and sail ships, and at what I thought would totally blow me away... Didn't really. It doesn't help they pushed this game to get out, I understand Fall is the time to get games out, I mean the Holidays boost video game company(s) it either makes or breaks some. Yet this is Ubisoft, they know how things work, I'm trying not to hammer a series I love like a son of mine, but I do need to slap it in the face and say quit being stupid.
Even the free running that was so smooth in the later AC2 installments, isn't there anymore, while playing in Boston it seems like the buildings are too spaced out, by the time you already jumped three or four roof tops, you've got no where else to go but down. Unless it's for a mission, they point you mostly in the clear path. Yet I'm still hitting bugs in the running, where I'm climbing up things I shouldn't or I'm not running where I want to go.
I will say sailing a large boat was a good idea, again it falls short, it kind of reminds me of what a new version of Sid Meier's Pirates would look and feel like if it was remade for the PS3 or 360. Yeah you can do all the missions for your boat, but mostly when you did ONE mission, you mostly did them all.
At the end of the day if they only spit shined and fixed some problems, the game play would of been better to me, I'm not saying it's not a horrible game, but to me, I fell into the hype and got lost. I only hope other fans of this series don't take it as a back stab and only hope Ubisoft fits some of the problems.
For the score I'm giving it a close 3 out of 5.

Nice review. I hated the hell out of this game at first. I had just got done playing Revelations for the first time when it was released. I had heard about the bugs, and thought the day one patch would fix most of them. I was surprised as hell to see all kinds of graphical glitches and AI problems. I thought - this game must have been unplayable without the patch if this is what it runs like with it.
Letting that slide, the game started to grow on me when i finaly got to play as an older Conner, but all the things you mentioned about the towns and building spacing started to take away from what i loved so much in Revelations. I ended up just plowing through it and skipping side missions and activities just to finish it. The ending wasn't the greatest either. If they would have let me make that final decision it would have been much better. Why even show me two options if i can't.
I did love the fighting system though, and the new King Washington DLC looks pretty damn good. After playing all the main games from 2012 it's not as bad as i made it out to be. I may have even had more fun with it if i hadn't made up my mind so early into the game. I'll get it back used for the DLC if they've patched most of the bugs by now.
