Gareth Evans' balls-to-the-wall Indonesian actioner 'The Raid' not only wowed audiences at this year's Toronto International Film Fest, it ripped off their jawbones and used them to stab out their eyes. The film won the fest's coveted Midnight Madness Award. Before the dust had even settled, Screen Gems snatched up the remake rights and Evans had been tapped to do a sequel. Now the blitz to get this film into as many eye sockets as possible (and rightfully so) continues, as it appears the film may be returning to Sundance complete with a new score by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda. Even more exciting than that is the buzz that Sony Pictures Classics - which purchased the distribution rights - is planning on giving the film a theatrical release starting next spring. No word yet on how many theaters will be encompassed by this release.
I am pumped at the idea of seeing 'The Raid' adorning multiplex marquees, but I am a bit nervous that the breadth of the film's theatrical release has not been revealed. They could by all rights be talking about a twelve-screen release making it impossible for most people to bear witness to this mind-bending actiongasm. But then again, if the goal is to drum up interest in the remake and/or the sequel, it would make sense to get this into as many theaters as possible. It is a foreign film, but it's not as if it wouldn't play well to mainstream audiences. The action sequences are too bugnuts awesome for the film not to resonate. Don't believe me? Below is, once again, the red band trailer for 'The Raid' sure to rearrange your brain parts.

Holding the camera ON THE ACTORS for more than a second and showing everything happening! IMAGINE THAT!
