As I've always said, everyone is entitled to their opinion on video games. My opinion is that Obsidian is a burning pile of refuse that takes properties that I like and makes extremely poor sequels to them. The Fallout 3 vs New Vegas thing comes down to personal taste and for me, I hated New Vegas with a burning hot white passion. I felt that the story was completely uninteresting, the characters were unlikeable, and the RPG and combat systems were intentionally broken for no good reason. I spent 200+ hours playing and replaying Fallout 3 and New Vegas was so boring that I never even bothered to finish it. I feel the same way about everything that Obsidian makes. KOTOR 2? Hated it and couldn't get into it. Neverwinter Nights 2? Same. Hell, I bought Alpha Protocol off of Steam a few years ago for $5 and felt like I got short end of the stick.
Now before everyone decides to jump on my head and tell me how wrong I am, here's the thing. With the exception of South Park I've tried to play every single game they've ever put out... multiple times. Even before I started doing this for a living I wanted to like their games, but within about three or four hours I always, always become disinterested and bored. I mean, I must've tried to play KOTOR 2 a dozen times over the years, but I always end up just losing interest. The same was true of New Vegas. I didn't care which faction won because they were all equally unpleasant and uninteresting. From almost the very beginning of the game all I wanted to do was leave town. But what it really comes down to is this: I always feel like I have to try too hard to like their games when they should pull me in and keep me interested without effort on my part. Eventually this leads to me getting tired of having to try so hard to like the game and I just wander off to do something that's actually fun and engaging.
So if you guys and gals like Obsidian's stuff, great! Go buy their games and have a blast! Personally, after years and years of giving them my money and not getting anything enjoyable in return it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm not their biggest fan.

Comment by It's Just Ryan on April 25, 2012 at 9:10am Despite the bugs in New Vegas, I have to say there were times where I liked it better than Fallout 3. Mostly not having to go through all those subways/sewers trying to figure out where to go.
Comment by Janek the Crov on April 25, 2012 at 6:57am Fuck yeah, people be mad. We people be crazy. ;)
Comment by PirateLordBush on April 25, 2012 at 6:54am Geez. People be mad at you Jeff.
Comment by Janek the Crov on April 25, 2012 at 4:01am And Obsidian didn't collapse after New Vegas and lack of bonus payment. It fired couple of people, but they didn't cancel any projects. Don't know where did you get that. They're currently working on South Park the Game, same as they were earlier.
Comment by Lastsuperjedi on April 25, 2012 at 4:00am Jeff, seriously, go right now and watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. You will not be sorry. In fact, its probably one of the best cartoons ever.
Comment by Janek the Crov on April 25, 2012 at 3:57am How come Professor Jeff, a person well-versed in video game industry, blames Obsidian for their projects being unfinished when he knows that the titles he mentions were kinda-sorta "outsourced" titles, meaning: the blame for the games being unfinished should go to the publisher, not developer.
First of all, it wasn't 77 score that they scored on Metacritic, but 84 (PC), 83 (x360) and 82 (ps3) (which is understandable since most of their marks where 8/10 or 9/10), and they're supposed to get a bonus (not royalties) when it would reach 85.
As for bugs, it's a similiar situation to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines where the game (in case of Obsiadian: KOTOR 2 and New Vegas) was rushed by the publisher, Activision. Plus, Bethesda is known for it's buggy games (for me Morrowind was almost unplayable becaues of bugs and constant crashing, but did you hear of a little game called Buggerfall... I mean, Daggerfall?).
And the game itself was, in my opinion, awesome. Fallout New Vegas presented much richer and complex world than the one so childish and silly we got in Fallout 3.The writers at Bethesda are nowhere near as good as the writers at Obsidian, and that could be a subject of a longer discussion, but I already sound like a typicall internet nerd. ;) So maybe if somewhere down the line, some other time, if we meet then we can talk about it. Although, I'm pretty sure I've already talked about Fallout 3 & New Vegas in the comments for the review of New Vegas...
The game was great with multiple choices, so many endings and complexity and intelligence that was so lacking in the third Fallout.
Comment by G-man on April 25, 2012 at 12:52am @TheProfessional Well said. I totally agree with you.
Comment by TheProfessional on April 25, 2012 at 12:21am I'll say it. With the exception of KOTOR 2, I love Obsidian games. Alpha Protocol and New Vegas are both wildly under-rated.
