"I'm not going to sit here and say I understand your concerns and your pride because I don't" - Eternal Recurrence

Okay, so you're just talking out your ass.  Don't even try to deny it, because your breath smells like farts.

@Korey - Bravo sir, I applaud you for actually taking the time to sit down and fully write back to these people that seem intent on being arrogent. I'm totally with having a conversation about the bias on race withing the gaming industry, and you guys on the Loading Bar did it exceptionally well.  Neevr once was it turned into a personal statement as was suggested.

Going back to the main show, awesome stuff. I don't think the Wii-U is going to be as big a success or turning point as the original Wii was, I can't see why people would trade in their old console for the one with a remote controller with a HD screen. It's hard to say if Nintendo is playing safe, or has bigger plans up their sleeves.

It's good to see the BS and email show back, you all make me laugh so much during your banter. :) Kepp up the fantastic work, TLB is a great inclusion to Spill, and one I know will only get better as the year goes on. ;)

@Lilcross

Actually, I concede one point - I discovered that the Xenoblade series, while developed by another company (Monolith Soft, to be precise), can be considered first-party, since Monolith is owned by Nintendo. My apologies for that, although technically the core Nintendo team didn't work on it.

And it's true that Microsoft and Sony have fewer well-known first-party titles, but Microsoft Studios and Sony Computer Entertainment both own quite a few subsidiaries that are considered to be first-party developers. I suppose I wasn't using the term correctly beforehand, since I was specifically talking about the actual Nintendo team, and the phrase first-party is used to describe any developer that's owned by the publisher.

And again, Kid Icarus - another old franchise brought back from the dead. But I suppose you're right, at least about the Zelda series. But it still bothers me that Nintendo has to rely on that basic formula - they might add hundreds of new and innovative things, but it's still Zelda.

Guess I'm mistaken then. Sorry about that. I was under the impression that if it's published by them it's first party. I guess it needs to be developed by the company, but wouldn't that mean that Sony and Microsoft don't have many first party titles? I'm confused here, enlighten me.

Perhaps there were games similar to Wii Fit before, but I find it hard to believe that your denying the fact that Wii Fit was innovative, wither we like it or not.

Steel Diver is one, but I wouldn't mention that seeing as though people think it's shit. xD On the other hand, we have the new Kid Icarus and Luigi's Mansion 2 coming up. But, honestly, I don't feel that way. People like to bring up Zelda a lot in this respect, but I feel very different.

It's like people who complain about God Of War. The 2nd and 3rd games are pretty much the same thing plot wise so it feels stagnant, however, I still found myself enjoying the bigger and better scales of the battle that I didn't mind they decided to bring out another game. In Zelda, sure there's a similar formula beneath all the recent games, but in Majoras Mask I had to save a doomed town from complete annihilation from the moon in 3 days, in Wind Waker, I had to sail the flooded land of hyrule to save my sister, and in Twilight Princess I was forced to assist a seemingly selfish and evil imp to help my ragtag group of misfits survive. You see what I mean? I don't mind that there's a similar gameplay formula, but every time I get to experience new mind-fucking clever and innovative puzzles, interesting story-lines and what-have-you.

@Lilcross

Alright, seriously now. You need to go right to Wikipedia and look up what a third-party developer is. None of those games were developed by Nintendo, and thus they are third-party titles. You're sadly mistaken if you believe otherwise. Also, there were dozens of games similar to Wii Fit that were released before the Wii even existed.

It's not that recent Nintendo titles are complete rehashes, but they contain so many of the same elements, respective to each franchise, that by now I feel like we're going through the motions whenever we play a Nintendo game. If you can point to a recent first-party (developed by Nintendo) game that is not a part of Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, etc. then I would concede this point. But until then I contend that Nintendo is still sailing by solely based on its established franchises, with little to no regard for creating new ones.

That's funny. It's as if there needs to be a new franchise for a game to be innovative? OoT? COD4? Super Metroid? Don't matter. They weren't the start of a new franchise, so they don't matter. xD Give me a break.

Xenoblade, The Last Story and Endless Ocean ARE first-party titles, as they were published by Nintendo and are new IP's.

Wii Sports started the whole motion craze and Wii Sports Resort refined it.Wii Fit created an entire genre. That's huge, man.

Of course, I loved Other M and Epic Yarn, so different opinions and what not. But to call them rehashes is so wrong it's not even funny.

@Lilcross

None of the games from the franchises you've mentioned are new. All of them either build or rely on previous titles. Most of the Wii ____ titles are casual and gimmicky. Xenoblade, Endless Ocean, and Last Story are all third-party titles, which you'd know if you had cared to look them up. The only innovation they've got is the Wii, and that's pretty much run its course by now.

Also, I thought Kirby's Epic Yarn and Other M were pretty awful. In short, Nintendo is the very definition of franchise rehashing. The best that can be said is that they occasionally turn out gems like Super Mario Galaxy, rather than running their franchises into the ground like Activision.

COD4 changed multiplayer period.

CoD 4 changed the multiplayer for shooters, but Halo changed the whole concept of first person shooters. And when I met duel weapons i met like how you can only carry two weapons at a time.
