I adore Hot Fuzz and Shaun as much as everyone else. And yes, I'm one of those people who just saw Michael Cera playing himself in that movie.

Well, you're wrong about one thing. I actually completely agree. I think Scott Pilgrim was and is a little overblown. I love Edgar Wright, and I do like Scott Pilgrim, but it's nowhere near the masterpieces that are Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Also... Michael Cera? Really?

Holdon, Leon... You were more interested in Scott Pilgrim's story than Kill Bill's?
Why should we care about this whiny hipster kid/root for him to get this mystery girl? That story's no deeper, than, say... the story of a vengeful Bride looking to get even with the people who betrayed her.
I like Scott Pilgrim and Kill Bill, but I like Pilgrim decidedly less than when I first saw it. Sure, it's got awesome visuals and a decent sense of humor, but it more or less evaporated once I left the theater. A couple of the fights were forgettable, too. That's just me, though. I thought the Kill Bill movies had enough funny moments, crazy action sequences, solid performances, and engrossing bits of writing to entertain the viewer throughout. Most people complain that Tarantino spends too much time (mostly in his newer films) paying homage to certain film genres rather than actually crafting a film. Kill Bill has those moments, but they never really take over the film or hinder it (in my opinion.) It's a fantastic little revenge story, and the writing is phenomenal. Pilgrim's script was nowhere near as endearing.
I'm gonna catch a lot of flak for this (most everyone on Spill backs Scott Pilgrim 100%.) I do like it, I just don't love it as much as everyone else. Just letting y'all know what I think. I don't want to be branded as the constant League Agitator.

Not sue if there are enough lunch pail players to make the Detroit Pistons formula able to be replicated. In both cases, the Pistons traded a high scorer: Adrian Dantley (1989) and later Grant Hill for vital cogs and ultimately a deeper team. Even still, it was short lived because it was guys in their prime and they should have won a second title with Ben Wallace if not for that botched draft in which Dumars took Darko over Melo and Wade.
It's funny you say performance enhancers in Hollywood. I remember watching with my girlfriend Brad Pitt was on Oprah who said, the studio paid a personal trainer 10K a month to get him ready for Troy. Yea, I bet that 10K was well spent on custom protein drinks.
You be right, I am on the East Coast. :)
Hopefully with a little luck and a lot of support the 5 min anime corner will stretch out into 10-15 min. That is, if people can respect the fact that its one man's opinion. No need to get angry over it. Doesn't mean you can't discuss other anime on spill.

With all due respect Jaken, Super Bowl is not this coming Sunday but the Sunday after. No, the NBA will not contract, yet. But there will be a work stoppage as they work out a new CBA because they want to keep those flailing franchises alive. Concussions aren't just a problem in the NHL but every sport. I am hoping my Detroit Red Wings continue their solid play and add Nabokov (seriously, the Islanders need more than a 35 year old goaltender to sniff the playoffs)....
