The Spill Crew

The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen: Volume 5, Issue 2: Comics, Conventions, and the Business

What better time than during Comic Con for us to talk about Cons in general. Join us for stories of gatherings past, notes for etiquette, and a rousing discussion with three local retailers (our own Randy from Rogue's Gallery, Eric from Tribe Comics, and Brandon from Austin Books and Comics) about the business side of retailing.

Also, if you can, spend 99 cents to help out a good cause, as we talk about during the recording. You can buy the track "What You Gonna Do?" on iTunes here and you can buy it on Amazon here.

REALLY good podcast, made me wish I lived in Austin, the owner of the comic book store in College Station is just some quiet German lady

Awesome show, guys and gals. Have always been interested in the comic buisness. And I always try to support my boy Mike who owns the local comic shop down here(HEROES & VILLAINS).

Also glad to hear your advice for attending Cons. I've started attending the Con scene recently. I'm going to be attending this years DRAGON*CON. Hopefully will meet one of my idols(Stan Lee), help break a world record, and have all sorts of nerdy sh*t to get up to!

@: Cat your body suit has powers you just haven't found them yet they seem to have hypnotized the members of the league :)

as you say that though we all as comic book nerds read superman or iron man and say you know if just for one day I could have that power I could really do something. I mean hell I remember reading strazynski's (if I'm spelling that correctly) silver surfer requiem and that part where spiderman has him give the whole world the power cosmic for 5 minutes to allow world peace and it made me say you know if only.

I think your brother is doing a wonderful thing and I wish I could. I do what I can to ensure the charities I send money to are legit but your brother is doing a wonderful thing.

@28Daveslater: I'm not trying to pass judgment on whose situation is worse. I didn't want to get into the situation in East Africa because it goes way beyond oil. Yes, those people are absolutely suffering, and they deserve help. And yes, the situation in the gulf is not even comparable to what is going on there.

Here's the thing: As much as I wish I were Wonder Woman (and have wished ever since I was five), I'm not. I can't fly around the world in my (solar powered) invisible jet and fight injustice everywhere it occurs. My black bodysuit offers me no super powers. I bought my silver bracelets at Macy's. I'm just trying to do my part as a responsible citizen however I can. I try to make responsible choices as a consumer and as a voter, and when I see an opportunity to help people out, or help someone else help people out, I take it.

If you're concerned about the situation in Africa, my brother is going to Uganda next month, as a volunteer, to build water systems and housing in a village there. If you want to give a donation to the organization he's going with, I'll be happy to send you the info. I know it's not the same area you were talking about, but it's a way to help out.

@Kristin: there was actually an episode of Paranormal State where they concluded that the "haunting" was caused by carbon monoxide exposure.

As nate (creator of Robert Kirkman's ''The walking dead'' fans) has disappeared and due to the upcoming premiere of the series on AMC, I will create a new group dedicated to "The Walking Dead", both the comic and the series.
