I just plain dispise this movie and it isn't because I though this was Shymalon's "Inside Man" where he can come back and make something great or how good the show was; it was because of how awsome the teaser trailer was.
How sad is it when the TEASER trailer that lasts less than two minutes is better than an hour and fourty minute film? This is number 3 on my list basically because I felt as though i was actually watching something more disapointing and WORSE than Wolverine Origins. It was for all reasons you explained terrible, although the score was awsome, I don't care who says otherwise.
If you want to see a great M Night Shampoo movie is Unbreakable. It is not only a great film, it is also on Tarrentino's top 20's list and calls it a masterpiece. If you want to see Bruce Willis have a great performence and a great use of originality to a superhero film, that is the film you want to see ASAP. Also,watch the Sixth Sense because Shymalon can direct kids, just watch how good the protagonist is.
