M. Night Shyamalan has finally cast our 3 main characters:
Noah Ringer, karate prodigy found in a open castin on Texas, has been chosen to play Aang

-no picture of the little guy available yet-
Nicola Peltz is to play Katara:

Jackson Rathbone -Twilight alumni, by the way- is to play Sokka:

And in talks to play the Fire Nation exiled prince, Zuko *cue to dramatic music* is:
Jesse McCartney

You can totally see the resemblance
While the cast seems more fit to be on a "Drake&Josh" type of show, we must rememeber that "Avatar: The Last Airbender", despite it's complete awesomness, was always aimed for kids, and it's a Nickelodeon series after all. The actors are mostly unknows, except maybe for Mr. Rathbone who I've been told plays Jasper Hale on "Twilight", and maybe Jesse McCartney in the remote case he gets the role of Zuzu, but as we know how Shyamalan is out of his goddamn monkey mind, he'll probably end with the role.
This isn't how I envisioned the cast for the movie, yet I find kinda hard to just trash this, as it's just in pre-production, and that also Avatar creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino seem to be cool with having Mr. "What a twist!" as the ringmaster of this circus.
For all intends and purpouses, one of the great things about "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is the character development, and if they actually manage to pull this, those who end with the roles of Aang, Zuko and Azula will be very lucky actors. So, congrats Noah Ringer for becoming Avatar Aang -and you better put your picture on IMDB already- and Jesse McCartney, if you do get to play Zuko, DON'T FUCKING RUIN IT!
"The Last Airbender" -thank you James Cameron- will be released by Paramount on July 2010.
