'The Hobbit' to Start Filming Summer 2010

Source: MovieReporter.net

German site MovieReporter.net talked to Peter Jackson, who revealed that The Hobbit and its sequel will now start filming mid-summer 2010 instead of the previously-reported March start.

Here's a translation of Jackson's quote:

We're currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next. When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget. We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we've received no green light from the studio yet.

We're guessing that green light won't come until MGM's future is cleared up. We don't expect that this will affect the first film's targeted release of December 2011 and second film's release of December 2012.

As an African-American, I'm offended when other African-Americans want to pollute the lore of native peoples (and I include European lore) with political correctness. That's like saying whites should play Asians and Native Americans in historical films- wait, that's right. White actors DID have minority roles back in the day, and it was STUPID then, as it is now. You enjoy a story on its own merits, not because of race. If there was a minority actor playing a role that is not racially specific, then that's fine. But s/he shouldn't be play them for the sake of being politically correct. History is what is its, so keep the lore pure.

SoOoOoOo...is Guillermo del Toro STILL be directing (i hope so, if its not PJ)...and if G.d.T. is still directing, they BETTER have Doug Jones on board (he is an amazing actor, and works very well with heavy makeup on).

@sol aka "Cap'n Hates-A-Lot!", Middle Earth is Europe from the mystical age so the minorities are just other white men. I'm not going to ask Chinese filmmakers to add white peolel to their fantasy movies simply because I would like it more that way (which I won't btw). Middle Earth isn't Earth, and if you take a good look at the map then you can see the mystical middle east in the south (and you saw their warrios in the third film aswell). Maybe if Tolkien could have lived up to a 110 then he might have added more to his world. Oh and black people might have gone to Ireland but that was not in the mystical age and they didn't stick around to warrand a place in European fantasy. Maybe if folklore had recorded more of them then Tolkien would have done more with that interesting bit of history.

on comments of absence of black people in lotr; the middle earth lore is taken from european legends, monsters, dwarves, leves, trolls etc; orc is actually a term the saxons used for the normans when the normans invaded england, which is reflected in the orcs' english accents.. it may be interpreted as racist, but it's more true to the source marerial for the characters to be believably european...just like how the "men of the east" had almost samurai-like armour and looked oriental. kinda rambled there, didn't i.......
