'The Hobbit' Announces Full Titles, Release Dates

In a press release from New Line Cinemas, Warner Bros. and MGM, the official full titles of the two films have been unveiled. The first film is called... wait for it...

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'

(taking a cue from the first chapter of the book, entitled 'An Unexpected Party')

while the second film is now titled... [insert blaring trumpets]...

'The Hobbit: There and Back Again'

(taken from the original title of the book)

Okay, okay... so they're not exactly the most surprising titles in the world (considering that most of the fans already assumed they'd be titled in a similar manner), but shouldn't we take that as a good sign? A sign that yes - once again director Peter Jackson is paying attention to the legions of Hobbit fans worldwide and what they want out of this film? A sign that Jackson is again trying to expand and illuminate the original stories while staying true to the source material? There aren't a lot of directors out there who have simultaneously enamored and respected their audiences to the degree that Peter Jackson has, so let's all cheer the man on his latest endeavor and hope for the best.

'An Unexpected Journey' arrive in theaters on December 14th, 2012, while 'There and Back Again' will arrive a year later on December 13th, 2013. In addition to the news, Jackson also posted the following pic on his Facebook of "Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel brandishing an array of fearsome Elvish weapons!":

That's all good and well but where's the pic where Martin Freeman is wearing the Bilbo Baggins garb for me to get giddy.

Patience Ferry2dead. Better he take his time and make the best film he can, than rush it and fuck up.

He also answered the first of 20 questions posed by fans on his facebook page, confirming that the siege of Dol Guldur by the White Council will be in the movie. In more than one scene. Awesome.
