The Great Movie Quest Review of Vertigo by A Hitchcock. ( Beware Spoilers!)

ht

Its the first day of The Great Movie Quest and while my intention was to start off with Citizen Kane, It did not get here from netflix in time, so I settled for my second choice, Vertigo. Settled however, is the wrong word to describe this movie however, mainly because its a brilliant film.

Jimmy Stewart plays a detective named Scottie Ferguson who after watching a man fall to his death off a rooftop develops an intense fear of heights and retires from the force. He is then hired by an old friend named Gavin who wants Scottie to tail his wife and investigate her strange behavior. Ferguson watches Gavin's wife Madeline as she visits the grave of a woman named Carlotta Valdes who was Madelines great grandmother. However something more sinister may or may not be afoot and Scottie is right in the middle.

I wont spoil anything further of the plot if you have not seen this masterpiece. Hitchcock displays a touch for spinning a web or mystery with long scenes sans dialogue move the plot along beautifully. Add in the sweeping score from Bernard Herrmann and you really cant ask for anything more from a film.
