The Gays & Lesbians are blaming Sundance for Prop.8

Before I get into this touchy subject here, I just want to say that I voted "NO on Prop 8.", and if you are one of those that voted Yes on Prop.8, then you're a "F#@KING @$$-HoLe".

The GLBT community has asked hollywood to boycott one of the most prestigious film festivals of the year.... Sundance Film Festival. Sundance is held every year in late January, but this year the gay community is asking aspiring filmmakers, and you people to boycott the festival by not buying tickets, and pulling out your movie out of Sundance. As to why Sundance!?!?!?

"January's star-studded extravaganza is held in Utah, home to the Mormon Church, which was instrumental in persuading 52.5 per cent of California's electorate to vote for Proposition 8, the ballot measure to outlaw same-sex weddings. Now gay rights campaigners are calling for Hollywood actors and directors to pull out of the movie festival as part of a wider consumer boycott of the state.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is headquartered in Salt Lake City and counts about 62 per cent of Utah residents as members. It provided thousands of activists and up to $40m (£27m) in funding to help Proposition 8 pass, leaving 18,000 recently-married gay couples in legal limbo.

After a week of noisy public protests, bloggers, gay rights activists and others seeking retribution against the Mormons are planning to disrupt the $6bn (£4bn)-a-year winter tourism industry, in which the week-long Sundance festival plays a central role.
"

Really!?!?!? Why not do what the latino's did when they fought deportation, and boycott the state of California; instead of telling aspiring filmmakers to give up their dreams because of something that some hateful mongers, unedudcated voters, some democrats, and some replubicans did to your equalty!?!?!?

Oh shit! That would also be f*cking up the economy even more, huh?

Let us not forget that it wasn't only the mormons who voted YES on Prop.8.

There was a good argument on prop 8 that was probably showed the proposition was not well thought of.

It is politically retarded to create a retroactive law.

The best example of that extreme is that there are people that want to erase a population by ridiculous laws that might as well attempt to remove the rights and political existence or women and people of color because that is exactly what prop 8 is aimed specifically to the GLBT population.

Hence why there will be lawsuits will be up the wazoo (no pun intended honest).

Dude, this is more than just beliefs. This is about telling people what they can, and can't do. This is about telling people who to have feelings for, instead of letting them love who ever the F#@K they want.

It is sad that some African Americans, and some Latinos(in which most of the majority came from) voted yes on this prop. If we can remember back in the days of segregation, blacks weren't allow to vote. Blacks weren't allow to marry white chicks either, and yet, that kind of shit still happends to this day; just because the white male can't stand seeing a interacial-couple between a black guy, and a white girl. Every ethnicity is still going through it, and yet, they think have the right tell two men that they can't love each, just because they can't stand gay people!?!?!? And please don't throw that bogus "religion" at me because to those who want to use the bible as a reasoning; you just want to use the bilble as an excuse, so that you can come up with some kind of bullshit excuse to eliminate other peoples rights.

So why are you telling me not to call people(who want to take away other people's rights) a F#@KNG @$$HOLE!?!?!? This country was built under ''liberty", and to tell two men or two women that they can't marry because they find it discussting, and take away their rights is being a F#@KNG @$$HOLE.

If somebody was to tell you that you can't date that really hot girl because she's not in your league, how would you feel?

I don't agree with this boycott, and mostly agree with everything MDS has said. But also, i think this is a B***S*** proposition.

ghostwriter,

I completely agree with you. THAT is how a law is made. When the population's majority votes for it you MUST put it into place regardless of your own personal feelings regarding the matter. Now, let's just say that Prop 8 failed, do you think the STRAIGHT population of California would start boycotting companies, posting names and donations online, actually bringing enough community pressure on people that they were forced to RESIGN their posts???

Sorry, you can't have your cake and eat it too.
It's either you OBEY the rules and laws, or you work WITH the system to change them.

This boycott is a load of bull. Why take it out on young up and coming film makers and actors who had nothing to do with prop 8?

I remember when the gay marriage bill passed in Massachusetts, Gov Mitt Romney who is Mormon, said there were more important things to worry about than gay marriage. He didn't want it, but he signed the bill as it was the will of the people.

With all due respect, if we had always followed the majority opinion, blacks would probably still not have the rights they do today. Let's not forget that even dear old JFK said that we shouldn't worry about the issue of civil rights in the midst of the Cold War. Letting a civil liberty of any kind be decided by a majority vote rather than, say, a court ruling does not make me happy.

That being said, this proposed boycott is a stupid idea.

i didnt vote but dude. dont call someone a "Fucking Asshole" because they voted for what they believe in. This is America and we can vote for whoever or whatever we want to without being made fun of or shit like that.

I whole-heartedly agree with MDS on this subject.

I also want to say that this exact same thing happened in the presidential election on Nov. 4, in which, ironically enough, actors and other Hollywood celebrities pumped tons and tons of cash into the Obama marketing campaign, and yet, no McCain supporters are going around saying we should boycott Hollywood films because the actors in them fed the machine that helped Obama win the election.

Seriously, the "LGBT community" needs to learn to STFU and accept the majority opinion for once, and the fact that perhaps not all people agree with them.

What I want to know is why is everyone attacking the 'soft' target of the Mormans?

What about the Catholics? The Baptists? Where's the uproar over the Latino and Black majority voters?

Hey, I know that a lot of people aren't happy with the fact that the MAJORITY of the state don't want Same-Sex weddings to be called MARRIAGE. But, you know what? This is America where the population's TWICE voted opinion should be ENFORCED.

I'm sorry, but I'm actually SICK AND TIRED of the homosexual MILITANT attack on just ONE group of people that voted for Prop 8 while not saying anything regarding the OTHER vast amounts of people that voted. And I also find it funny that they are going OUT OF STATE to protest in Utah instead of protesting in CALIFORNIA in front of the LA Diacose (or whatever the catholics call it).

Sorry, this just comes across as picking on the wimp because he said "No more lunch money for you."
