If it's crap... We'll tell you

Source: Bloody Disgusting

Bloody Disgusting reports that William Peter Blatty, author of the original novel The Exorcist and its screenplay, has announced that a new version is in the works, in the form of a TV mini-series.

Blatty, when asked if any huge changes were coming, said:

Yes and no. I would love to have been able to include the subplot involving [Chris MacNeil's housekeeper] Karl and his daughter Elvira, which I did in my first draft, but that script ran to 172 pages: much, much too long. But I might have it my way in the near future, inasmuch as I've written an Exorcist miniseries script that not only faithfully includes all the main elements of the novel, but also some rather spooky new material and scenes, as well as a totally new (and perhaps much more satisfying) ending. I've also updated it. [William] Billy Friedkin has agreed to direct.

What do you think of The Exorcist team remaking the film?

An Exorcist TV-miniseries actually sounds good in my book.

Maybe if he thought about this back then its a good idea. The movie could of been longer and then he could of cut it down for a theatrical version. The original movie is good so why make a TV mini-series of something already a classic?

i don't think they will make is as good as the original movie, but seeing that the writer of the original novel gives hope that this could be pretty badass

I'd like to see this on ABCfamily... I mean really, they need something more than Harry Potter: the prisoner of azkaban to fill their time slots.

When I was a kid all this demonic possession stuff really frightened people - even me. But now, I no longer believe in any of that stuff (gods, devils, demons, angeles, witches, vampires, faries, trolls...etc.), but I do fear the very real dangers of organized religion. When I see a guy in a white dog collar, I don't automatically think he's some kind hero, but maybe a villain.

I'm sorry, but this will not go over well. The one thing younger audiences complain about The Exorcist is that it drags out too much before the horror begins. Now they are going to make a mini series out of it?

Plus, I feel, the digital enhancments they made to "The version you've never seen" took away from the suspense the original had. I fear that Friedkin will want to use more digital effects then a lot of the on stage and in camera effects they used in the original.

Last, with as much violence that is shown in network television, the original version is cut down for television audiences. The idea of a network mini-series won't have the same impact as the film does to this day.
