"Mark of the Spider-Man" viral campaign in which cities all over the nation were "tagged" with giant spider-emblems. Well, today they kicked off the latest batch of marketing - a hunt for evidence left behind by Dr. Connors himself (aka "The Lizard"). Using an account named @ScaleSeeker on Twitter, the hunt is currently ongoing in cities like New York, Chicago, New Orleans, and our very own Austin, TX (you can follow along with the fun using #LizardTrail). Posts were sent out with latitude and longitude coordinates, a brief description, and a corresponding photo. For Austin it was:
Well, we're lucky enough to have one of the biggest Spider-nerds on the planet working for us, and our very own
Fungusmonkey delivered the goods! Sure, he may have had to stab a few people in the neck to get it**, but you know what they say: "You can't make an omelette without Fungusmonkey stabbing someone in the neck" (or something like that). He followed the coordinates to a location near downtown near Butler Park, and there - hidden amongst the marshy glades near a conveniently lizard-sized manhole cover - was a ripped and tattered lab coat, with an OsCorp ID badge:
And last but not least, inside the pocket was a sealed envelope labeled "OsCorp Industries Herpeton/Sequence: 09" with a lab slide inside. Under the glass seems to be some kind of lizard scale (nice tie-in, guys) and a code: "Batch LF":
The batch code is likely the next part of the viral campaign, as the other slides recovered all contain different codes (maybe that spell out the next website address?). So far, they've recovered:
New York: Sequence 1 Batch DQ
Tampa: Sequence 2 Batch L
Atlanta: Sequence 3 Batch P
Minneapolis: Sequence 5 Batch G
New Orleans: Sequence 6 Batch BQ
Austin: Sequence 9 Batch LF
And more keep flooding in by the minute. Follow along on Twitter and see how it all unfolds!
UPDATE! Now that all the slides have been found, the Batch numbers have been decoded and unlocked a link to:
http://www.oscorpindustries.com/animaldynamicslab/
as well a new video featuring Dr. Connors announcing an "internship program". The date on the page says it begins May 14th and from the looks of the bottom of the page, the more you share the link on FB and Twitter, the more it unlocks. Go there now to help out, and spread the link (don't forget to tell them Spill sent you!).
**Fungusmonkey has not ever stabbed someone in the neck... that we know of.

Comment by Tron on May 11, 2012 at 8:14pm @Flounderboy: Agree, but he does have a point in that it still needs to get to general audiences if it plans on getting more business. It needs to speak to a general audience, which it can afford to if it is a retelling if spidey's origin. While I get what Rocket Joe is says, I DO AGREE that this marketing is very ingenious.
Comment by PirateLordBush on May 11, 2012 at 8:11pm Jeez.. Rocket Joe's been nerd raging on the comment sections for weeks now, and I think this is the fucking straw that brokes Godzilla's back.
Comment by Miracleman on May 11, 2012 at 8:11pm @Rocket Joe - I'm pretty sure you're trolling. And I know you're new to Spill and all, but we don't take too kindly to folks like that 'round here. So, if you are just Caps-Raging for Caps-Raging sake, there are plenty of other sites to do that. However, if you're being serious, then take your BZD and calm the hell down.
Anyways, I really like the viral marketing campaigns they're doing: particularly for this, Prometheus, and The Dark Knight Rises. Props to Peter/Fungusmonkey for getting the coat though, that's some dedication right there.
Comment by C.H. Gorog on May 11, 2012 at 7:24pm @Rocket Joe! - Whoa. Calm down, dude. Let's just wait for the movie to come out before judging it.
Comment by Flounderboy on May 11, 2012 at 7:09pm Lol I think Rocket Joe had a stroke in the middle of his post....extra points for finishing though. I think Sony knows what they're up against better than anyone. While The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises only need trailers to get people in the seats, this movie has to go the extra mile marketing-wise. I like it though....this viral campaign only reinforces the "mysterious" angle that the movie is trying to sell.
Comment by Madman Blue on May 11, 2012 at 6:56pm Sometimes people ask me, 'what do you mean by nerd rage? What is that?' Well, thanks to Rocket Joe down there, we have a case-in-point.
Comment by Paradox on May 11, 2012 at 6:18pm @Rocket Joe! ...not sure if serious
I dont get the point of viral marketing it only really gets a certian type of fan the general audience doesnt know about this type of crap.
Comment by Dr.DeadVortex on May 11, 2012 at 5:31pm nice lab coat,i think im prepared to stab someone in the neck for it.
