EMZreviews posted a blog postSo you feel Christophor Nolan was snubbed at the academy awards. My question to you is … who cares? If you believe that Christophor Nolan is getting what he deserves…who cares?
Who is the academy? What gives them the right to decide what the best movies of the year are? That idea is an extremely subjective idea, honestly. What makes their opinion more valuable than anyone else’s. A friend of mine tells me that the reason is that most of the academy are previous academy award winners. Okay…who voted them in.?
There is no doubt that the academy has power. No one would have even heard of the Hurt Locker, if the Academy hadn’t gotten hold of it. There are stories of how the home videos of Pulp Fiction didn’t really start selling until the academy put their recommendation on the box cover. People look at these normal (yet talented) people with this sense of power. We give these people importance, and while the actors, actresses, directors, editors, musicians and producers are all talented and good at what they do, why do we get mad when they don’t agree with us. They are people with their own opinions. Those opinions either match ours or don’t. Why do we care what they think? It’s all subjective, really.
If you believe that Chris Nolan was the best director of this year (or at least one of the best) okay, cool. No one will change your opinion, esspesially not the academy. If you believe that Nolan was one of the worst directors of the year, well no one will change your opinion.
After all of these years of watching the academy awards and disagreeing with some of their choices, I have learned to take their opinions with a grain of salt. I watch the awards, like I watch VH1s weekly top 20. They are predetermined by people I don’t know. I don’t watch it to really see what the best music of the past week was. I watch it to be entertained and to disagree.
