If it's crap... We'll tell you

The Financial Times reports that the rights to the Terminator franchise will be auctioned this month.

All the big film studios have also registered interest in the rights, with Sony Pictures a leading contender.

The rights, which will give the buyer permission to make new films and TV series, are being sold by Halcyon, the production company behind Terminator Salvation.

Terminator Salvation cost $200 million to make. According to Box Office Mojo though it only returned $125 million in the american domestic market, foreign markets raked in $246 million. Thats a total of $371 million, and a profit of $171 million overall. So they aren't losing money, which makes it more of a surprise Halcyon want to sell it.

Man I forgot about the Robocop vs Terminator books. That is such a wicked idea.

1&2 are great. okay, no point in rehashing that.

3 sucked ass! I still to this day can not see how anyone can defend that movie. "Talk to da hand" seriously? If they had taken away all the gloss and glam it might have worked, but in the end it was a horrible concept to begin with with a disappointing climax.

T4 wasn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. It wasn't GREAT by any stretch of the imagination... and the big revealing spoilers were in the trailer... but take that away it wasn't a bad action flick. At least they didn't have gay bars, Arnold's cheesy one-liners and inflatable boobs. :-/

This series, as great as it was, is dead. Jim Cameron will never touch it again. Just let it die in peace. We got 2 and 1/2 great movies and one really shitty one. I never watched the TV show (although I own the 1st season) so i can't comment on that. How the mighty have fallen - INDEED!

Terminator Salvation is just the logical follow up to T3, when I saw T3 I thought they would have a long term plan in how to shape the future of the series. But now that it's being sold it seems that every new owner simply adds to what has already been done with no overall story between the films except to make them consistent by staing true to the ending of thge previous one. So it sounds like they are just going to milk this, and since T:S didn't do that well this is probably going to end up as a B-movie serie similiar to Blade and so many others.

I thought Terminator Salvation was quite good but not excellent, all the elements o the story link into the first completing the time loop. This was the first film that wasn't a carbon copy of the others and didn't follow the set model, if they're going back to the set model I'm not really interested in seeing the next one!

I wonder if Cameron's interested in getting the rights, if not dark horse, I wouldn't mind Robocop vs Terminator brought to the big screen.
