Universal has released the first clip from the creature feature 'The Thing', the upcoming prequel to the classic 1982 John Carpenter horror film by the same name. Set in remote Antarctica, the film follows a crew of international scientists who discover the frozen remains of an alien ship at an isolated outpost. They salvage what appears to be an alien creature, but once it is discovered that the alien can replicate any living thing, paranoia and fear spread amongst the team. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, the film will be in theaters on October 14th:

So you admit it's a Norwegian base?
.... Interesting....

I never said anything about flaws, I was simply pointing out that in the original film the base they went to and the ten people stationed at it were explicitly referenced as being Norwegian and nothing else.
Saying that there could have been an international team there at the same time simply because the movie never says there isn't is somewhat laughable.
Using that same logic we could make a sequel where Kurt Russel walks a mile to a Seven-Eleven and hitches a ride home on a dragon, because the original movie never said they weren't there.

Uh, if you guys are arguing about them being Norwegians or an "international team", just watch the original movie.
They're referenced explicitily as being Norwegian and only Norwegian numerous times in the film.

The helicopter gunman at the beginning of the movie speaks Norwegian, and the helicopter he rides in is marked NORG4.
If you can speak Norwegian he even gives away the entire first half of the movie by talking about how the dog isn't really a dog, but a monster.

"Maybe we're at war with Norway."

"You really wanna save those crazy Swedes, huh?"
"Norwegians."

"Hey Swedes!"
"They're not Swedes, Mac. They're Norwegians."

"Anything?"
"It's all in Norwegian."

... That's in the first twenty minutes of the movie...

Weird that there's all these references to Norwegians, but nothing about "internationals"....

Don't get caught up with inconstancies when they movies not out yet.  They may explain it in some way.  Maybe the international team is instructed to have their notes in Norwegian becuse thats whos base they are one.  You don't know till you see it.

@Chucky G: The reason that I don't NEED to look up the Wiki on the movie is because I'm such a fan of the 80's version. They were supposed to call in an "international team" of experts? Then why is it that when Doc and Mac (Russel) go to the outpost and gather all the notes, they can't understand them because they are WRITTEN IN NORWEGIAN?   So, where the concept for this prequel to get an "international team" from I have NO CLUE. Kind of hard to support a "prequel" concept when they can't even follow the FACTS of the movie they are making a prequel to.

@TheDubya The original trailer might not have been very impressive. I don't know; I've only seen the movie. But this teaser goes beyond being unimpressive by showing a jump scare that's so predictable it's completely groan-worthy. This clip isn't bad because the monster is CG or because it doesn't feel like the original or for any superficial reason like that; it's bad because it's conventional to the point of being completely banal and ridiculous.

Well, I think it's pretty safe to say that this will be a steaming pile of predictable bullshit.

People saying that the original had jump scares, it had about 3 in an entire movie, one of them well put and unpredictable, one of them in a very tense lead up, and one the last one was a bit of a cheapo. This has 2 in under 50 seconds.

@Chucky G

I have nothing against remakes or prequels,

especially when the folks behind the project care about the source material it's based on.

because of my love for the original film i will be checking this out when it's released.
