The Official trailer for the upcoming Tekken movie adaptation has been posted, you can view it below.
Okay, after seeing this trailer i am disappointed, but not terribly disappointed. I guess i am some what in denial because i am a die hard Tekken fan. However, the fact that they are wearing costumes that exactly resemble the game, though a nice thought, looks so cheap/fake. Also i don't like the idea of everyone fighting in what is basically the Octagon. I would have preferred a Mortal Kombat approach where the fights take place in different setting and then the final fight taking place in the Octagon. Which is what happens in the games anyways, well, the octagon was in the fourth game. One final thing is that the movie looks cheesy at parts, and the story is a mix of the third game and the sixth. I don't know how i feel about Jin basically acting as though he has never seen Heihachi or Kazuya in his life. In addition i don't like how the whole back story of Kazuya is being ignored, including his death in the second game and subsequent resurrection in the fourth. Now i know some people might say that by doing that a Fantasy aspect comes into play, and things get complicated. But on the same token, that is already being done, because apparently as i have read, Jin possessing the Devil Gene is a key part of the film.
Now on the bright side, as i wrote in a blog a while back, i am glad that they have hired actual Martial Artists to play the roles. I also think the fighting looks like it will deliver, which is a plus especially considering that other recent fighting game adaptations (DOA: Dead or Alive, and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li) couldn't even deliver on that. I also have read that the film is a hard R, well at least it was edited to R from NC-17. Now on that note, i'm indifferent about that because i mean the game was not rated M. However in real life after fights like those in the games, the fighters would have serious injuries, this is if they were still breathing at all. Another thing that i have read is that this is an indie film not produced by Hollywood, which would be nice. To top it all off, this was not a 20th Century Fox film....(wipes sweat from Brow, drops to knees and thanks higher power.)
Overall i have many mixed emotions flowing through my body. I think if the movie turns out terrible it won't be any worse than Van Damne's Street Fighter, which is a good thing. I mean Van Damne's SF is a guilty pleasure, and hell, i'll take that any day over The Legend of Chun Li. The U.S. Release date is not official so who knows when we'll see this, but when it hits the U.S. i will see it. One reason is because i hate to only speculate about the quality of a movie i have mixed emotions about. Plus, as i already said i am a Die Hard Tekken fan.
Now if i had to rate the movie based on this trailer i would give it a

i think that the fans that going to see this should not expect 3 things:
1. good storyline or a story line that resembles the game. the movie is for a mass audience. those who are non familiar with the game are going What the Fuck? if the original story is use. but judging from the trailer it looks like a straight to dvd story which i actually like.
2. some of the character from the game are going to be in the background only. the movie is 92 min long, i dont think they can cover all the character. i do hope they each have a cool fight scene at least.
3. cg effect. there will be no man with leopard head, no ogre and jin hair will not stay up during a whole fight scene. honestly i like that. this is a low budget film and i hope they focus the fight scene as the main draw. less is more.
if this movie is release in my country, im going into the theater looking forward to watch a fun martial art movie featuring tekken characters. my advise to tekken fans is to see this movie expect less and just maybe you experience more.
p.s hey phoenix, yes fox didn't produce this film but it is produce by company that produce Bratz and Ghost rider movie Wuhahahahaha. but hope warner bros will do good job distributing film.
