Technology and Skin, Self improvment or Humanity

I was Playing Deus Ex and Deus Ex:Human Revolution and they both raised interesting points. Has the technology we've created run away from our grasp? Is technology destroying life's when they were supposed to make them easier and improve them? And most importantly if we let technology run away from us will we no longer be what we call human? That's what I'm asking you all. What do you all think about this? Would you augment yourself to get ahead in life? What do you also think defines us as human?

Augmentation is the act of improving a human being by using cybernetics, nanites and nano-technological implants or psychological conditioning and pharmaceutical drugs, this way creating an advanced transhuman, much superior in certain capabilities to an ordinary one.

Theres a ebook a read once, called heaven or hell, its all about technology and its impact on humanity. You should read it, it's free and its an eye opener. Look it up, google heaven or hell E-book.

The way I see it, the only way we're going to truly thrive as a species is to become as intelligent as we possibly can as a whole; if we can achieve this in an efficient and safe way through technology, I'm definitely all for that. As long as all we're doing is enhancing a person's ability to function and not messing with the things that actually make them human, I can only see this use of nanotechnology benefiting the species. As far as nanobots that let us live for a very long time are concerned, I'm definitely not against the notion, but we're going to have to expand our living space (i.e. get off this little rock and find out what other good shit is out there) well before that technology is developed.

I believe if we were to augment ourselves it would be with guidelines and rules ,
