Tarantino Discusses Potential Finale Of Alternate History Trilogy

Quentin Tarantino seems to be in a very specific mode right now, and that mode has him re-imagining history. Whether it be Nazi-infested Europe during World War II or the final days of slavery in the antebellum south, Tarantino has been leaving his mark on the past. Now that 'Django Unchained' has hit theaters, the question becomes, once again, what will be his next project? It seems one option on the table is for QT to put together another alternative history epic that would in fact be the completion of a trilogy that began with 'Inglourious Basterds.' He's calling it 'Killer Crow.' It too takes place in Europe in 1944, and follows a squadron of black soldiers. It sounds a little nascent at the moment, but here's what he said in a recent interview...

"I don't know exactly when I'm going to do it, but there's something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for Inglourious Basterds way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f--ked over by the American military and kind of go apes--t. They basically -- the way Lt. Aldo Raines (Brad Pitt) and the Basterds are having an "Apache resistance" -- [the] black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland. It would be [connected to] Inglourious Basterds, too, because Inglourious Basterds are in it, but it is about the soldiers. It would be called Killer Crow or something like that."

So we need to look at this from two angles. First, does this project sound like something we would want to see? I'm an avid Tarantino fan so I would watch him direct an 'Annie' remake...which I assume would be uber violent and reference all manner of 70s biker movies. That said, I'm not sure how productive it is for him to try and lock himself into a trilogy. He goes on in the interview to say that only half of 'Killer Crow' is written at the the moment, and that he had originally conceived of it as a miniseries, one that had to be tamed down. So having to retrofit the second half back to his usual style might present the danger of a sloppy narrative. But more than that, one of the biggest and most frequent complaints lobbed against 'Django Unchained' was how it handled racism against African-Americans. Why would Tarantino want to again put himself in a position wherein his movie would be judged by his era-specific uses of racial slurs rather than the plot or stylistic choices? The second angle to consider here is whether this project will ever actually happen. My guess is that it won't. 'Killer Crow' smacks of 'Kill Bill 3' or that discarded Vega Brothers movie; just another fleeting idea in Tarantino's frenzied mind.

What do you guys think? Will 'Killer Crow' ever see the light of day? Would you want to see it?

..follows a squadron of black soldiers.

Or, as Tarantino would put it, "a squadron of n*ggers". I wonder if he's going to break his Django "n*gger" use record in 'Killer Crow'.

I'm not touching this one with a 39 and a half foot pole, lest we invoke another 35 page comment shitstorm.
