Quentin Tarantino seems to be in a very specific mode right now, and that mode has him re-imagining history. Whether it be Nazi-infested Europe during World War II or the final days of slavery in the antebellum south, Tarantino has been leaving his mark on the past. Now that 'Django Unchained' has hit theaters, the question becomes, once again, what will be his next project? It seems one option on the table is for QT to put together another alternative history epic that would in fact be the completion of a trilogy that began with 'Inglourious Basterds.' He's calling it 'Killer Crow.' It too takes place in Europe in 1944, and follows a squadron of black soldiers. It sounds a little nascent at the moment, but here's what he said in a recent interview...
"I don't know exactly when I'm going to do it, but there's something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for Inglourious Basterds way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f--ked over by the American military and kind of go apes--t. They basically -- the way Lt. Aldo Raines (Brad Pitt) and the Basterds are having an "Apache resistance" -- [the] black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland. It would be [connected to] Inglourious Basterds, too, because Inglourious Basterds are in it, but it is about the soldiers. It would be called Killer Crow or something like that."
So we need to look at this from two angles. First, does this project sound like something we would want to see? I'm an avid Tarantino fan so I would watch him direct an 'Annie' remake...which I assume would be uber violent and reference all manner of 70s biker movies. That said, I'm not sure how productive it is for him to try and lock himself into a trilogy. He goes on in the interview to say that only half of 'Killer Crow' is written at the the moment, and that he had originally conceived of it as a miniseries, one that had to be tamed down. So having to retrofit the second half back to his usual style might present the danger of a sloppy narrative. But more than that, one of the biggest and most frequent complaints lobbed against 'Django Unchained' was how it handled racism against African-Americans. Why would Tarantino want to again put himself in a position wherein his movie would be judged by his era-specific uses of racial slurs rather than the plot or stylistic choices? The second angle to consider here is whether this project will ever actually happen. My guess is that it won't. 'Killer Crow' smacks of 'Kill Bill 3' or that discarded Vega Brothers movie; just another fleeting idea in Tarantino's frenzied mind.
What do you guys think? Will 'Killer Crow' ever see the light of day? Would you want to see it?

Comment by Anthony Stokes on December 29, 2012 at 11:56pm This is retarded. One thing I'll give Tarantino credit for in Inglorious Basterds was that the movie made a statement without really saying it. The theme of cruelty was in the background and really worked. " Nazis sucked, Not all Nazis are assholes". For Django that's what the movie tries to be about. This is disastrous, the reason Tarantino can't grow is because every one sucks his dick regardless of what he does
Comment by BLU Year on December 29, 2012 at 11:26pm Does it have to be about WWII? And does it have to be such a badly explained concept? I have faith in the man's talent but come on. I'd like something new.
Comment by HudsonsirhesHicks on December 29, 2012 at 9:40pm I think Tarantino's coming from the view that even though black soldiers fought in WW2, they were still treated as second class servicemen. Few became front line soldiers, and most were relegated to service units run by white officers. A lot were looked on as only 'good enough' to be cargo handlers, cooks or supply truck drivers and the like.
Sure they proved the authorities wrong by showing how great they could be with the likes of the Tuskegee Airmen, but they were only given that chance because the brass thought they would badly fail and wanted to prove that once and for all.
It wasn't until later in 1944 at The Battle of the Bulge did a major breakthrough come when over 2000 black 'soldiers' volunteered to fight at the front line when assistance was called for as things were so desperate the army couldn't be too choosey anymore.
What I'm trying to say is a lot of them must have felt real pissed off, angry, and frustrated that they were still segregated in this modern army, and even though they were willing to give their lives for America they were still thought of as second rate and not smart enough. I guess thats the angle Tarantino may be coming from.
Comment by Civilized Worm on December 29, 2012 at 9:23pm ...What.
So...he wants to make a movie about angry black American soldiers who go on a murder spree against other American soldiers...because they're white?
What the f***?
