Suspiria the first of the three deals with The Mother of Sighs (hopelessness). The movie is about an American girl that enrolls in a dance academy in Germany. Strange noises are heard at night and soon students start to go missing. The dance academy however is the home of the Mother of Sighs and all the teachers there are really just part of her coven. Suspiria is considered Argento's masterpiece and considered the best out of all three movies. Like most of his movies it is beautifully shot and the colors that he used in each scene cannot go unnoticed. I wouldn't say that the film will scare you, it was made in 1977 so some scenes are cheesy and outdated. Also you have to remember that this is an Italian horror film so some things may not make sense at all, it's ok a lot of his films do that.

The second film in the trilogy is 'Inferno', and deals with The Mother of Darkness (madness). She is suppose to be the youngest of the three sisters and the cruelest. Which means she is pretty badass. Her house/coven is in New York City and is covered up to seem like an old apartment building. One of the tenants ends up discovering everything about the Three Mothers and that her apartment building is one of there homes. Sad to say she goes missing and her brother ends up following her trail. I personally like this film the most out of the three. I totally dug the Mother of Darkness, she was wicked awesome! And the story dove a lot more into the back story of the three mothers in general which I find really interesting overall. But I found it more to be a mystery in itself and figuring out which tenant was the Mother of Darkness. Again some stuff in here is not going to make a whole lot of sense and that’s ok cause it's Argento. It is made in 1980 so not really a scary movie, and the effects aren't all that great but you can't help but appreciate it for what it is.

Mother of Tears is the finale film in Argento's Three Mothers Trilogy, that began almost 30 years ago with Suspira and followed up with Inferno. However, out of all three films Mother of Tears is the weakest and my least favorite. You would think after so much time has gone by that Argento had plenty of time to put together a solid script that would satisfy his fans that had been waiting so patiently for this finale film to come out. For those who don't know about the Three Mothers Trilogy, the films all focus on three sisters that happen to be witches. Each film focuses on one of them and the location of their houses that were built for them, one in Germany, New York, and Italy. Mother of Tears focuses on the last sister, the oldest and most powerful of the three. I was really looking forward to this film cause I had enjoyed the previous two and figured that since this one was just recently made in the last two years that it had to
be great. Given the technology that movies have today and the fact that Argento is a horror icon , this movie should kick major ass. But it didn't! The film started off at a good point but then slowly started to go down hill.

My major problem with the story was that the powerful witch in this film didn't seem all that great. In fact you don't really get to see her all that much until the very end. Mostly you get little glimpses of her like a close up of her mouth or eyes. Or her face is completely hidden but she is walking around half naked or completely in the buff. But she's not like the wicked witch from the west in fact the film states that she is the most beautiful of the witches, and they don't lie. The witch is hot, like runway super model hot. But as for being a mighty witch she didn't really impress me she just made her little hench monkey do all the work, when she obviously could have just done it all herself. Asia Argento also is in this movie, the directors daughter, she is the main character and the audience follows her as she tries to find the Mother of Tears and destroy her before she destroys the entire city of Rome. Asia is a good actress, she is ok in this film but I know that she was probably just did this because her dad asked her to. I think she overacted it a lot of this and at times that their was no need for it. Even though this is probably the worst of the Three Mothers Trilogy I still recommend it to those who are Italian horror/Argento fans. You don't see a lot of horror films that feature a witch as the main monster, so I give it credit for being different in a time where zombies and vampires are in. Check out Argento's other two films Suspiria and Inferno!
