Superman Goes Shirtless in New 'Man of Steel' Set Pics

From the Vancouver set of Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel,' the film's Facebook account just posted new set photos. The photos are clearly from an effects-heavy sequence, given the surrounding green screen, and feature a very shirt-free Henry Cavill getting his hero on. Our question of course is, why does Superman look like Wolverine all of a sudden? Off the top of my head I can't ever remember seeing a shirtless Superman, mostly because the red 'S' on his chest is so much of what defines that character. But maybe Cavill just wanted to show off the fact that he is in fact super ripped. If that last picture is any indication, it looks like The Village People will be featured on the film's soundtrack. Check out the photos below and more at the film's FB site. 'Man of Steel' soars into theaters June 14th, 2013.

@Arsene - Yeah, read my comment a couple pages back where I map out pretty much what the scene is: big explodey danger, Clark saves the day (at the expense of his civvies), flags down a helicopter to take the rescued workers to safety. It takes place earlier in the movie when Clark is still traveling the world. They also shot a big scene in a fiery stretch of hallway where Clark is rescuing the workers. You can see most of the shot in this set video (the bright stage lamps that are set to flash after the men run to the helicopter are off-screen explosions):

Finally a movie adaptation of  "Superman Distant Fires", can't wait to see the giant house cat he rides on.

This is like seeing a loose doodle of a baboon on a napkin in 1992 and then saying, "The Lion King is gonna suck!"

Gentlemen let's not fight the movie will not suck because of a shirltelss bearded man in the photo, I think it will suck because of Zack Snyder!

wow, so much hostility based on a few iphone pics from the set. People are making assumptions and getting heated over nothing. The fact that it's a behind the scenes pic means no one has any clue as to what's going on except for those involved. For all anyone knows in the third pic Cavill could be talking to the Director, AD, or DP. So for now hold off judgment, at least until there's a teaser out.

I'd be more worried about the fact that neither Christopher Nolan or David Goyer are still involved with Superman. Nolan took an advisory position after Snyder was hired and later left the project completely to focus on Batman, Goyer left shortly after Nolan Did. So Creative control is now firmly in the grasp of Snyder.

Another real concern is the extremely long post production time, The average summer film is only 8 months in post, this one is nearly 16. It has a post time which is on par with a Star Wars film; which leads me to believe there is going to be a ton of CGI, either that, or Warner is going to try a trial and error approach through several test screenings and re-shoots. Constantly reworking the film like Lucas does with Star Wars. But again, only time will tell.

@ MaroBot You're right, I don't know what going on in these photos. Nobody knows except  the people making this movie. All I'm saying is that in my opinion in the 3rd photo from the top Henry Cavill looks like he is yelling at someone telling them to do something. Or in other words, giving orders. I don't assume to know what's going on. That's just my guess as to what's happening.

Why would they fallow the orders of some barefoot shirtless guy in ripped pants. That does not make sense. Now, if he was Superman and his reputation for saving people was well known, then yeah, these pics would make sense. As far as the EMP knows he could be just some half naked crazy guy. For all they know he could have caused whatever danger they are saving people from.

Say, he did display his superpowers, why would they automatically trust him ?  I would be like " How did you do that? What are you ? Are you a robot ? Are you a government experiment ? Did you cause this dangerous situation ?"

My point is no, I don't know what going on. It's just my opinion that these EMT just seem to be acting odd in my guess of what this situation is.

Fungusmonkey  lol I will. Because super-powered strangers appear out of nowhere to rescue my ass from a massive explosions all the time. : )

Seriously though, how many times do you see EMT calling strange people over to help them ?

" Hey you, that crazy looking shirtless barefoot guy over there, help us over here." "Also, could you shout orders at us and tell us what to do because we are clearly not professionals and we have know idea what we are doing."

First, there's a difference between having a point and defending it, and "freaking out". One is based on a logical assessment of facts and information, the other is wildly exaggerating and making stuff up off the top of your head. I've never been anything but calm and collected in any disagreement I've had on the site, I always have facts and proof to back up my opinions. Sure, I may have opposing opinions to some people but that doesn't make mine any less or more valid. Leveraging these massive arguments about how Superman is going to be terrible, based only on your completely random guess about what the pic is supposed to be of is just ridiculous. A couple pics on greenscreen says nothing about the quality of a film. Maybe it'll be terrible, maybe it'll be great. The point I'm trying to make (that I will continue to make) is that people need to be more objective about these films and remember that criticizing one small part of a film isn't the same as criticizing the film as a whole. Compartmentalize. Don't like Henry Cavill being shirtless? That's fine. Raging about how the film is going to suck because Superman never wears his suit and he obviously must have amnesia and lost his powers and blahblahblah... just wait until you know what the scene is actually about before jumping all over it's ass. Agree?

@Toe Knee Bee Ears - Tell you what, next time a super-powered stranger appears out of nowhere to rescue your ass from a massive explosion... you tell them just that. :)

Toe Knee Bee Ears First of all, there's no photo of him ordering EMT, you dont know what the fuck they are doing there, its just a mid-action photo of him waving his hand for some reason, and without seeing that scene in the movie we cant assume we know what's happening there. And even if he "orders" them around, it might be the case that this is pre-Blue tights n red Cape Superhero stuff Clark did (like in the Superman Birthright comic book) so they might be aware of his powers, just dont know him by name.
