Superhero News Round-Up: Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, The Avengers, and X-Men: First Class

There were simply too many superhero news stories today to fit into individual posts, so we're packing it all into one giant-sized extravaganza! Today we have rumors about a possible director for 'Iron Man 3', Zack Snyder chats about the new 'Superman' film, 'The Avengers' may have even more recognizable S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and last (but not least) Fox shows us the first glimpse of 'X-Men: First Class'!

THR is reporting that writer/director Shane Black is currently in the running to helm the third outing in the 'Iron Man' franchise, now that Jon Favreau has left the series. This rumor has led to a vast increase in fanboys praying to their maker and/or selling their souls to the devil in order to make this happen.

Black, a sharp director with a keen eye for dialog is best known for movies such as 'Lethal Weapon' and 'The Last Boy Scout' and has previously worked with Robert Downey Jr. on 2005's 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' which Black directed and co-wrote. It's even rumored that RDJ consulted with Black prior to his role in Iron Man to nail down the "Tony Stark" style.

Insiders say that it's far from a sure thing, but seriously - if Marvel wants to make another stellar Iron Man movie, Black is the guy they need.

During a short interview with SFX magazine, Zack Snyder talked about his upcoming reboot of the 'Superman' franchise:

"My feeling about Superman is that I’ve been a fan of the character for a long time. But the question for me was always, ‘What can you do with Superman in a modern world?’ And I think the amazing thing that Chris [Nolan] and David [Goyer] have created, that I’m working on now, and the reason why I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do that,’ was that they found that in him. They found the why in him. That’s the exciting part for me."

When asked how his version will differ from previous films, Snyder remarked, "I can’t really talk about that without being kind of specific, but I can say I think Superman needs to be physical", which may come as a relief to fans that have been waiting for years to see Superman actually hit someone for a change.

According to ComicBookMovie.com, in addition to having Carol Danvers (aka Ms. Marvel) as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the upcoming 'Avengers' film, there are also rumors going around (stemming from a sketchy press release) that Kevin Pennington ('90210') has joined the cast as Agent Wendell Vaughn, who comic fans will recognize as the alter ego of the superhero Quasar.

The appearance of both Ms. Marvel and Quasar has fueled speculation that the series is setting up a Kree-Skrull storyline for an upcoming Avengers sequel. You can read more about the sketchy press release on their site HERE.

Last night, the official "X-Men: First Class" facebook page released new photos of Magneto (at least we think it's Magneto, even though it doesn't match previous photos of Michael Fassbender's costume) and the film's full logo:

UPDATE! They also just released the first official trailer for the film on the X-Men Movies facebook page:

@scott666

that's what i was thinking till i saw pictures of the actor imdb has attached to alex summers name, they don't match up but there really isn't enough time to see the actors face clearly so it could be a stuntman in the scene.

Does anyone know what charcter that is suppose to be at 1:20?  cause if what i have heard is correct and that's suppose to be scott summers then already they goofed up by having him shoot laser beams out of his hands.

Trailers can lie, but as long as this film is better than Last Stand and Wolverine Origin...I'm cool.

well, i can see your argument, and if i read more X-men, i might agree with you, but me being a outsider to the x-men universe (as shown by my mess up of the original line-up) and seeing this trailer, i am pretty sold on it. btw: when i said 40's, i ment 60's lol.

Storm nor NightCrawler weren't even Xmen until after the break up of Magneto and Prof. X ,as was the original Xmen. I like the fact that they are dwelling into the relationship between the 2 but as you can see the trailer they also have a few of the mutants that weren't even xmen but were considered villians.  They just need to do movies correctly if their going to do them at all.

I actually really like what their doing with X-Men First Class. At first, i was hesitant about the fact that basically none of the X-men here are the main, recognisible X-Men, like Cyclops or Storm or Nightcrawler, but now that it's taking place in the 40's and that its about the start of the X-Men and the Magneto-Xavier relationship, I am really excited about this and the trailer only helped to enforce that.

First off I really like the trailer but I feel that if it's being called first class then they should of went by the comic and had the original XMen; Cyclops,Ms Marvel,Angel,Ice Man, and the Beast. They really don't know their comics well if they fudge these things up now do they? Every hero movie so far ever made has been pretty well made but sorely depicted from the comic point of view. Just my opinion.
