Am I seriously the only one that actually liked Jennifer’s Body? I know that it had its flaws especially in the story alone, but I don’t see why most people are writing this movie off altogether. I for one found it to be entertaining and loved the whole horror/ comedy aspect of the film. Even though I found it to have more comedy then horror. Maybe I’m just weird like that and prefer to see something different instead of the same old horror remakes.
Also I want to note that I don’t understand why a bunch of critics are saying that this movie wants to be ‘Heathers’? ‘Heathers’ is my ultimate movie of all time and I don’t understand how everyone is putting them together. Yes both take place at a high school, yes classmates die, and yes they have quirky lines; that’s about it! ‘Heathers’ is a social statement about society and teenage angst. ‘Jennifer’s Body’ is just about a girl who is possessed and eats her male classmates to look good. There’s also probably a bit about feminism in horror movies too but I don’t feel like getting into that.
I like Diablo Cody and her quirky writing. I like to not know whats going to happen in the next scene and what might come out of the characters mouths. But I will point out the biggest problem with this movie was it’s script, more importantly the relationship between the two main characters Jennifer and Needy.
Right off that bat I didn’t believe that these two could be best friends. There personalities are so different which is even pointed out in the film itself. It’s not like Jennifer is an overall nice cheerleader in general, she’s bitchy and self absorbed. These two girls are total opposites and in real life their friendship probably would have fell out during middle school. And no best friend of mine would let me go off in a creepy old van with a bunch of dudes I don’t know. Not to mention the fact not even bother to call the police for help! What I think Diablo should have done was give these two girls a stronger more believable friendship. Which would probably mean making some changes in the Jennifer character alone. If these girls had a better bond starting off the storyline would have probably benefited more and you’d have a much more powerful character development.
This may come as a surprise but I actually enjoyed Megan Fox in this. Now before this movie I really didn’t care who she was. The only thing I saw her in was the first ‘Transformers’ film and an episode of ‘Two and a Half Men’. She may not have the acting chops like her double-ganger Angelina, but she brought the most she could to this role. And I really can’t see anyone else for the part of Jennifer. I’m actually rooting for her now and I hope that her acting will improve and that she’ll get the right movies to prove that to mainstream audiences. Also Amanda Seyfried was great and almost stole the show in a few scenes herself.
Even with script flaws I over looked them for this movie. I had a lot of fun that in the end I didn’t really care all that much. In fact my sister and me wouldn’t mind seeing it again in theaters before it’s gone for good. Plus we’ve already decided that we want to get this when it comes out on dvd. Even though it looks like everyone is shitting on this I have a feeling that it will get a second chance on dvd. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it does get a little following of those like me who do like it.
