Steven Spielberg In Negotiations To Make 'Halo'

The 'Halo' Movie Isn't Dead: Expect To See It On The Big Screen Sooner Than You Think
According to IESB, Steven Spielberg is currently undergoing negotiations to make a film adaptation of the popular video-game Halo. Reports say that Spielberg had read a proposed script by Stuart Beattie entitled Halo: The Fall of Reach. Apparently, Spielberg is a huge gamer fan himself and he's really determined to make this into a feature film.

Read the article here.

I've never been really excited for a Halo movie due to the fact it can't possibly be done. The Master Chief is a quiet guy and there isn't much character development in the story at all. While I love the games with a passion and love the story/mythology, I just can't see Spartan 117 up on the big screen fighting the Covenant. It would look so corny and I know they would add a bunch of unnecessary filler just to stretch the time out. I don't want to find out about Master Chief's past (which is what the article hints at) and I don't want to sit through 2-3 hours of them adding content to a video-game plot just so it can be a feature film. Even when Peter Jackson was on board I was still skeptical. The games just go through countless levels of intense action, which is fine for a game, but not a film.

While I believe it's practically impossible to make this film, here are some things that could help:

- Let the voice actors of the game be involved. I don't want the Master Chief or Cortana sounding different.
- Spielberg will most likely be in the producer's chair, so the director's chair is empty. Peter Jackson or Neill Blomkamp (director of District 9 and the director of the short live-action clips that promoted Halo 3) should direct. Let's face it, Spielberg did amazing films a few decades ago, but he's losing his touch. He has a crazy imagination that's getting a little over the top. But this imagination paired with Jackson or Blomkamp might do some good. Spielberg can make some crazy ideas, but Jackson and Blomkamp would certainly know that their are limits. I think it would be an interesting team-up.
- Let Bungie guide the film to where its supposed to go. They created this beautiful universe so they should have a say in what's done.
- Get some of the top CGI artists in the industry! (those who worked on the Transformers for example -- love or hate those movies you have to admit the CGI is beautifully done) Halo rings, aliens, Spartans, space battles...this all needs to look legit!
- Finally...the most crucial thing that can help these film makers and their careers: Just don't make this movie.

Halo: The Fall of Reach is a book based on Halo that does not follow the storylines of the 3 games. I think its a prequel. either way, it has a pretty god story to it, and i'd like this to be made (BY GOOD FILM MAKERS)

And dude, you missed a big point! Spielberg would do this film with Disney. WTF?? Walt is rolling in his grave (or cyro-crypt which ever)
