Steven Seagal Will Not Appear In 'The Expendables 3'
Over the last few months, Sylvester Stallone has been assembling the cast for his latest geri-action extravaganza 'The Expendables 3.' So far, Nicolas Cage has signed on and names like Jackie Chan, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Steven Seagal, and Clint Eastwood have been mentioned as being pursued for the latest franchise installment. Stallone, within the last few hours, has given casting status updates on his Twitter account. It appears that Chan is still a strong possibility, but we should no longer hold our collective breath as far as one other prospect is concerned. Here's what he tweeted...
"No S. Seagal, sorry ,but maybe we get lucky with J. Chan! And some young bloods!!!"
He then clarified what he meant when he mentioned that the production is looking for young bloods...
"By young I mean 22 to 27. Not big bruisers but tech wizard, super brains and a young woman who is not a sex symbol but funny ,tough,REAL"
It may just be because the guy's movies were not as vital to my childhood as were Jackie Chan's, Arnold Schwarzenegger's, and Sylvester Stallone's, but I couldn't give a tiny little crap about Steven Seagal not being in 'The Expendables 3.' I've since seen one or two of his films, and they were fine, but the new film will hardly be adversely affected by his absence. I'm actually more interested in the rest of Stallone's statement. Young bloods who are tech-savy super brains, eh? My assumption is that while "big bruisers" need not apply, the cast members for which he is searching will still need to be able to handle themselves in a fight. Might I suggest Michael Jai White? 'Spawn' may have derailed his career, but he is a really smart, funny guy who more than knows his way around a brawl. As to the tough, funny sex symbol? That's a bit more difficult. Gina Carano is tough and sexy, but I can't speak for her comedic chops. Actually, given how well Scarlett Johansson did with the comedy in 'Don Jon,' and how badass she was as Black Widow, maybe Sly should give her a call.
What do you guys think? Are you disappointed Seagal is out? As far as the other roles Stallone is looking to fill, who would you suggest?

Where's Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel and The Rock? They should all be in this. I don't really care if Segal isn't in this either, but it would be nice for him to be in this.

So not sex symbols!! Something we need a bit more of. Female roles that kick ass with great dialogue that don't have to rely on close ups of cleavage and ass-shots....IMHO. I think Nan Yu did well in part 2... She wasn't particularly a sex symbol even though all the other characters drooled all over her, but she held her own.

As for young bloods get Chris Hemsworth to play...Liam Hemsworth characters cooler and more badass brother lol. As for other people it's ridiculous they're missing some of the biggest action stars of this generation such as the Rock or Vin Diesel. I actually think Segal would have been hilarious in this for how bad he is (like in Machete) but alas. Either way just hope the third one is actually balls to the wall (to steal another film's mojo).

Steven Segal is good, he has gotten fat and grizzled but his deadpan delivery is hilarious...heck with Expendables....we need a Nicholas Cage and Steven Segal movie.

Seagal from my viewings of his DVD movies from Film Brain, has lost his edge. He's outta shape, dosen't put any kind of effort into his work, his knees are bad, (almost as bad as Hogan or Kevin Nash's), BUT he could still kick ass. As for the young girls, get the Haywire woman, Michelle Rodriguez, or how about Rose Bryne shooting an AK-47?? I'd pay to see that. Or hell get Katee Sackoff.

How about bringing back people like Sammo Hung, Bolo Yeung, Cynthia Rothtock or Michelle Yeah. It sort of bugs me that Sly talks about bringing back the action genre from the 80's and ignores the people that actually broke some bones doing crazy shit.
