'Star Trek Into Darkness' Will Feature Klingons

The first trailer forJ.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek Into Darkness' hit the web last week, and while it featured a shipload of new footage, very little was actually revealed. This week however, a great deal more footage was screened for press, and apparently it's yielding some very interesting info on the upcoming sequel. First and foremost, the movie will feature Klingons, that dastardly alien warrior race that were arguably the Enterprise crew's greatest foes. It seems they will retain their signature forehead ridges (as can be seen above), and there are even glimpses, in the press trailer, of the Klingon homeworld Quo'nos. All of this info is coming from the Twitter feed of Mr. Silas Lesnick from ComingSoon.net. He also revealed that actress Alice Eve will be playing Carol Marcus. In the original films, Marcus was the mother of Kirk's only son David. And that's not all! Separately, this below image (of Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chris Pine) was released with a caption that referred to Cumberbatch's character as John Harrison. Though there was no John Harrison in the 'Star Trek' canon, there was a crew member on six episodes of the original series named just Harrison who was present during the "Space Seed" episode that gave us Khan.

Wow, so it looks like all the the juicy stuff was obviously in the press footage. I'm not sure where to begin here. I was wondering when Klingons might find their way into the Abrams 'Star Trek' universe. Now as to how they will fit in, I can't begin to speculate on that. The news about Alice Eve's character is interesting. Marcus was introduced, along with Kirk's son David, in 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.' For a long time, people have been flirting with, if not desperately clinging to (klinging to?) the notion that the main villain of 'Star Trek Into Darkness' would be Khan. Now that Paramount has let slip Cumberbatch is playing someone named Harrison, does that put the kibosh on both Khan and Gary Mitchell? If so, why then bring in Marcus?  We have to keep in mind that the time-travel device in 'Star Trek' completely changed the time structure of that universe. She could now be the foundation of any number of stories, old or new. Not only that, but also Abrams may just be setting up yet another reference to 'Wrath of Khan' without remaking 'Wrath of Khan.' His first outing was chock-full of nods to 'Star Trek II' so I should not be surprised by this.

What do you guys think? Do you think John Harrison is a reference to crew member Harrison? Does this serve as the smoking gun that it won't be Khan or Gary Mitchell? Could this be a smoke screen by Paramount? How do you feel about the new Klingons?

I think it's Gary Mitchell.

Also I bet the Alice Eve isn'y really Carol, I bet she is secretly Dr. Dehner

They already did Khan in the first movie. Nero was the exact same character as Khan except his beef was with Spock instead of Kirk. If they did do Khan, I would like to see a different take on the space seed story.

J.J Abrams is just trolling everyone.

Huh. All those news about Bandersnatch Cumberbun being Gary Mitchell got me excited. Now I'm a tad disappointed.

I care, because its not fair and yet, it always falls into petty arguments to compare/contrast two actors from different generations playing the same character. It would be a waste to go through all that trouble to have Spock change time so the look and feel of a Star Trek movie is different to the point where a talent like Benedict Cumberbatch's talents can't be used in an original character to create something fresh. Let's admit it, 0-1 with Nero...a very forgettable villain. Trek NEEDS a good villain. It's been since the Borg, and that too is debatable right Plinkett?
