If it's crap ... We'll tell you

In their celebrated careers, both Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro have played classic boxer characters; Stallone with the 'Rocky' franchise and De Niro in Scorsese's 'Raging Bull.' Now it seems these two aging cinematic pugilists are looking to square off in the ring for Warner Brothers. The two are in negotiations to star in 'Grudge Match,' a comedy about two retired boxers who agree to one last bout against one another. 'Grudge Match' will be directed by Peter Segal ('Tommy Boy') and the latest draft of the script was penned by 'Entourage' creator Doug Ellin. The idea is to start shooting early next year unless someone throws in the towel before final negotiations are complete.
I'm not sure about this project. As I've said before, it's really hard to judge a movie at this prenatal stage, but conceptually I think it's a bit clunky. The gimmick really only intrigues me if they can actually get Stallone and De Niro, and even then it's only mild intrigue. We've already seen Rocky climb back into the ring in his twilight years with 'Rocky Balboa.' So the draw here would be seeing him face Jake LaMotta in the squared circle; though the actors won't actually be playing their iconic characters, but you know what I mean. My hope is that the movie is allowed to utilize violence as a comedic setpiece, much like Michael Dowse's 'Goon.' However the considerable ages of its desired stars may prevent this. As to Peter Segal, I won't pretend I don't like 'Tommy Boy,' but I think 'My Fellow Americans' is my favorite of his films and, considering that comedy is about two aging former presidents, it's probably the movie that will give us the best idea of what 'Grudge Match' might look like. What do you guys think?
Would you see 'Grudge Match' with Stallone and De Niro? Who do you think would win in a fight between Rocky and Jake LaMotta in their prime?

:(
Comment by Saucy Pants on June 1, 2012 at 10:01pm I know I can't judge without seeing it first but, c'mon this just sounds bad, De Niro is about a 172 years old, and as the article pointed out Stallone already did this. If I see the trailer and it looks really funny, then sure I'll rent it, but my hopes really aren't high for this.
Comment by Alan Hall as Hallzzz... on June 1, 2012 at 9:33pm Too. Old. Period.
Comment by Ruben Baeza on June 1, 2012 at 9:20pm We can't judge without seeing it. It won't be like they are fighting for the heavy weight title and since its a comedy it will play on the fact that they are too old to fight in the ring, but give this material a chance. I still like de niro and stallone. They might be old but it doesn't mean I'm not interested in whatever they do in the future.
Comment by Ferry2dead on June 1, 2012 at 6:05pm Love De Niro and Stallone, but this sounds bad.
Comment by Barugon on June 1, 2012 at 4:33pm This could be great if it's written well, I hope it's good.
