Spierig Brothers to Remake 'Captain Blood'

Source: Coming Soon

Coming Soon reports that Michael and Peter Spierig, the Australian filmmakers behind the low-budget zombie flick Undead, have been hired by Warner Bros. to write a new version of the 1935 pirate swashbuckler Captain Blood.

The original film starred Errol Flynn as British doctor Peter Blood, who leaves his practice to becomes a pirate in the Caribbean.

The Spierigs won a heated battle against other filmmakers and pitched their own take on the movie to Warner Bros., which would take the story into outer space, although producer Bill Gerber has gone on record that the film will remain faithful to the plot of Blood's inevitable clash with a French pirate who captures the woman he loves.

The brothers' latest film, the sci-fi vampire movie Daybreakers, will be released by Lionsgate on January 8th, 2010.

Trouble with the original Captain Blood movie is the title in misleading. You think going in to the feature that it's about some bloodthirsty homicidal maniac who kills everbody in sight. But that's just not the case. Hardly anybody gets killed in this movie. What's the charm in that?

I note that these two brothers have also made Daybreakers, which has a kick-ass trailer. It could be the new Equilibrium.

Yes Q i've seen pirates in space, treasure planet is an example. Its just they are takeing a great movie and remakeing it but to make it there own they put it in outer space. It would be a lot better if it was set in the caribbean. The only reason they are putting it in space is to make it there own.

I hold firm that there are certain movies that should NEVER be remade because they are so good as they are...Captain Blood is one of them....who are they gonna cast...Johnny Depp?

What.....seriously outer space.....oh come on they are takeing a great orginal movieing remakeing it but to make it there own they are putting in space. Thats some major bull. Great another remake of a great film when the acting was more important then the special effects.
