Well, this sure woke me up that morning when I first read that headline.
Now, I'm sure all of you already know the news, so I won't recap what's been announced. All I'll say in this introduction is that this is another one of those rare times, like the death of John Hughes, where my thoughts on the subject are too vast to be on the comments section of the news article. This is because Spidey, like John Hughes, is another one of my childhood heroes, so obviously I have a lot on my mind about this announcement. So, here are my thoughts on what will surely raise a shit-storm for the coming months...

Before I begin, let me make something clear for all of you Spillios. Take a look at this example I have below. If what you posted on the comments section of the news article looked something like this...
"WTf SOnY?!!!!???! nO more SaM RAiMI or TobEy mAGUIre!!!?? NO SpIDr MaN 4????! WHat haPPenD to JohN MaLKavICH aS thE VulTUr??!!! FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...then get a grip. I didn't instantly respond to the news with this attitude. I instead sat back, contemplated on the matter, and
then decided to respond, which is what I'm doing now. I do have a few gripes, but they're not quick sentences using four-letter words in anger; they're thought-out observations that I made after a long trip down movie memory lane. So, my advice to you, my fellow Spillios, is that you better be careful when posting your thoughts in the comments section or a discussion concerning a dicisive subject like this one. Think about it for a while, then come back and tell everyone what you really think in a somewhat long, thought-out manner, or else people are going to think that you're some kind of moron who can't think straight before posting something.
Anyway...

Like I said, Spider-Man is one of my most cherished childhood heroes, and to this day my all-time favorite superhero. I practically grew up with the now-dead series (the second is currently my all-time favorite comic book movie), each movie immersing myself further and further into the world of mainstream comics. Although I'm not as big a comic book geek as I was a few years ago, that wise-cracking wall-crawler still holds a special place in my heart. Despite this, I am not at all the least bit furious over this announcement. I am, however, a little peeved.
What I'm peeved at (and saddened about) are just the consequential aspects of Sony's decision. Korey and the Co-Host took the words right out of my mouth when they made the point that we are now never going to see Tobey and Kirsten again and what else Rami would bring to the table. How would that idea with The Vulture turn out? What other colorful villians would get the Raimi treatment? But, to be fair, I thought the ending to the third (and now final) film was a bit fitting, so I guess the series kind of ended on a somewhat quiet note, despite what most of you think about how the series went out. And yes, for those of you wondering, I like the third one.
As for all the behind-the-scenes bullshit with Raimi and the studio, all I can say is that I'm once again saddened by Raimi's departure, but, at the same time, glad that he's confident with what the studio's going to be doing to the franchise. I just hope that the future film doesn't make him regret his decision.

Now I come to what I think about Sony's plan to reboot this franchise, to start anew. Honestly I don't have a whole lot to say; all I'm doing is hoping that they don't screw it up. What I will say, though, is this: the now-dead series was a fun time for all of us (well, at least two-thirds of it were for most of you out there), but now it's gone. Whether this new movie will rock us hard or suck ass through a straw, the first, and so far, best, Spider-Man film series will always be here. All I can say to the studio now, with them being in control of Spidey's future, is this:
"With great power, comes great responsibility."
