Although not set in stone, I heard on the radio that from now on, smoking will make a movie, no matter the intended audience, will be given an adult rating.
Movies that have already been released with smoking with of course be overlooked but now, to "protect the children" smoking any type of substance will be ONLY for adults.
I can understand this but at the end of the the movie "Thank you for Smoking" there was a joke that the government was going to change the classic movies to cut out smoking.
Now this is becoming a reality?
Not to the classics but to movies now in production.
In the movie, All Dogs go to Heaven, a fair few of the characters are smoking cigars.
Jabba the hutt smokes from a big arse bong.
This may not be the MAIN PART of these movies but if that had been released nowadays it would be given an adult rating.
Is this "tainting art" or a necessary censorship?
