Smith Signed On to 'Independence Day' Sequels

Source: IESB

IESB is reporting a rumor that Will Smith has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to make two Independence Day sequels that would be shot back-to-back.

According to the site's source, if all goes according to plan, the sequel(s) could shoot as early as 2011.

Roland Emmerich would again direct and the films would start after Smith completes his next project, which could either be Men in Black 3 or The City That Sailed.

i heard like YEARS ago there was supposed to be a sequel. now two? geez. it could be good. my dad and i always thought you could get more aliens to attack earth again kuz when they blow up those ships, theyre not completely destroyed, so some aliens could of survived in there. or maybe the government knows more about them. who knows, but theyre a lot of stuff that they can play with

Dude. Independance Day by itself was a joke. It was ''cool'' back then, espacially when I was a teen looking foward to see things blown to pieces but now, TWO sequels? It's like taking an excellent 2 minutes sketch from Saturday Night Live and make a 2 hours boring movie with it (oh wait, it's been done already...)

But hey, who cares? People will still go see it, right? Right.

Everyone's trashing it...but you know you're going to see it anyway. It's fucking Independence Day. The original will always be amazing and I don't think even a 'bad' sequel can take away from it. I'm excited to revisit that world. I watched ID4 countless times as a child growing up, it's just one of those rare movies you can't get tired of watching.
