Skyfall is the Bond Family Estate in Scotland that has been sold off because Bond being the last of his family is presumed dead. Even though he lives and has reacquired some sold items of his the one item he doesn't care too much for is Skyfall. Maybe that what Adele meant in the theme.
One question... What was Skyfall???
I had no idea Skyfall would be this great. BUT I do want to scold you guys for the house spolier, I didn't want to know that before the movie did.
Comment by Andrewtfman on December 1, 2012 at 1:33am Wow, just saw this (on a stinking hot day down here in Sydney in a theatre with no air conditioning no less >:( ) and was unfortunately underwhelmed by the whole thing. Bardem was interesting coz he played it kinda quirky, but that didn't make up for him being thoroughly underwritten. SPOILERS - so he got tortured, went nuts, and wants to kill M because of it.... the end.. and just HAPPENS to be a super computer hacker on top of being a super former agent.. hatches some super elaborate plan to get caught (for no reason) then after all the subterfuge and hacking and surreptitious bullshit, just busts into a room guns blazing at M.. I mean, couldn't he and his ARMY of henchmen just have done that anyway? They obviously knew where M was going to be..... Fuck, why not just break into her house at night and shoot her in her nightie or something?? His whole motivation for stealing the thing with the identity of all the agents felt completely unrelated to his overall more personal motivation of pure revenge.
In fact, every part of this movie was underwritten. They really could have explored some sense of kinship between Bond and Silva, given they're apparently similar circumstances (in that they're both spies and Silva's beef with MI6 coupled with Bond being shot at the beginning by one of his own) but this isn't explored at all. It all felt so bleghh.. so beige..so done before. Not to mention the whole title of the film doesn't relate to anything meaningful in the plot.
I wanted to agree with Brian, but in the end I fall more so on Leon's side of things. It was okay, not great, and certainly not the, or even one of, the best Bond films. Low matinee.
Comment by Gerard Gleeson on November 20, 2012 at 12:54am I see what Leon is saying here. His issues with the movie are valid but they did not bother me. There is a little lull after the beginning but it did not take to long for the action to pick up. Personally, I love this new Bond because it is more grounded. The earlier Bonds tried to amaze and fill you with awe. This one filled me with emotion; something I did not expect from a James Bond Movie. I cared for everyone on the screen even the villain. I was on the fence with James Bond after Quantum of Solace. After Skyfall I am completely on board and cannot wait for the next film!
No mention of Judi Dench? She was amazing in this!
Comment by Jer G. Gernault on November 17, 2012 at 3:34pm to me they can still keep the bond title like discussed before skyfall: like 007, james bond is a title not a name.
to me the 'proof' of bond being writen at the manor is a modification from mi6.
covering up everything to THAT extent. renaming that written detail in the mantle assumed by the agent.
all in all my guess is once you become 'bond' whomever u might be before is 'corrected' modifyed into 'jamesbond'.
like replacing your name by ur grade: 'LT. Colonel'. and not 'Charles Dims'.
but...it opens with that barrel! the corridor is the barrel, james doesnt shot he comes to u. it is a step forward compared to the cowboyish attitude of past bonds who shot first: he investigates, carefully operates.
i loved it.

Comment by Ecc3ntric Sanity on November 15, 2012 at 8:22am ok I finally saw the movie last night.. I avoided the the review until i saw it.
I agree with both Korey and Leon. it reminded me the hell out of the dark knight. which isnt bad at all. Bardem was so good that I found myself wishing he had more screen time. its a long ass movie and he doesnt even show up until like half way through. the movie itself had some pacing issues for me too. the action sequences were great but like leon mentioned, they were edited quickly so that you didnt feel the strength of the deaths. same with his sex scenes or lack there of. the chemistry between Em and Bond is what drives the movie though. more so than his love interests. Bardems planning at the end kinda felt off character. he was so cool and calculated when you meet him but as the movie goes along it feels as if he justs puts himself out there like an attention whore going with the flow. with all that said I Still was very entertained by the movie. Great acting and some very well filmed scenes did make me put a lot of what bothered me in the back seat as minor flaws. Ill give it a Low Full Price. it would have been a high full price if that scene at the church had more of a 1on1 confrontation.
Comment by D.E.S. on November 14, 2012 at 1:57pm WOW Korey, It reminded you of The Dark Knight? You just now figuring that out? The director already said he was inspired by TDK when he was making SKYFALL. You guys need to stay on top of your shit.
