@FalseFace,

Definitely see The Fighter. It's his one other film that, in my mind, most closely resembles Silver Linings Playbook plus it has some great performances. Christian Bale completely deserved his Oscar win that year.

Finally saw it after Leon's constant mention of it throughout the podcasts.  It's my favorite film of 2012, topping he Avengers.  I NEVER thought anything would, but it did.  Now it's time to go back and watch Russel's other films.  I've already seen I Heart Huckabees though ^^

I finally saw it today. It was good, but I really wish I had seen it before all of the Oscar hype and glowing reviews because they brought my expectations up higher than they should have been. I did think Bradley Cooper was great in this, finally proving that he's more than just a pretty face and, yes, he most definitely deserves the Oscar nod. Lawrence was good too, but I was annoyed by that weird psycho stare she was doing early on. Also, did anybody else think the ending of this movie was a defiance of Hemingway's style of storytelling, especially when you consider Cooper's blow up about a Farewell To Arms early on?

Wish it dealt more with how people are inconsiderate of those with mental instability. It seemed to do that quite a bit in the beginning, and I appreciate how Bradley Cooper's character seemed to finally get everything in control in the end, and how the only thing stopping him from fully being in control once his brother got introduced was his family. I felt like they were trying to do this thing where everyone around Bradley Cooper's character are the ones who are really nuts like his dad or friends, but hey. I liked the chemistry between Cooper and Lawrence and how their characters seemed to rely on each other for stability. Full Price for me. But I would've loved more focus on how most people take those with mental instability for granted.

I just saw this tonight and I LOVED it!  I am so impressed with both Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence's acting just as I was everyone's.  There was a sense of truth in the writing, the acting and the directing and never once did I feel it got cliche's.  It was definitely not a programmer.  I only wish the Midnight Meat Train inside-joke (shown partially on a movie marquee) was left out but I honestly thought this movie could veer off in any direction...and so glad it took the path it did at the end.  I am definitely buying the DVD the moment it's released.  Funny to read Danny Elfman doing the music because I'll be darned if I remember a score.

@Cassie

Yeah. Fuck opinions. This film is, IN FACT, only worth a rental and shouldn't be praised by anyone. Please, save your disappointment for something better. It's a great film that you don't like. 'Nuff said.

Guys...I've been disappointed in your reviews before, but I don't think I've ever been so disappointed than in hearing this review. This is a rental. A straight rental!

About once a year there's usually a film that I'd give a Better Than Sex to and this is it for 2012.
