If it's crap... We'll tell you

The fall TV season is always jam packed with new series and shows coming in for another season. With all the madness, a couple of shows are sure to get axed, but these are the three shows that I'll be supporting.

How I Met Your Mother (Season 5)

"How I Met Your Mother" is a series that I didn't catch until this summer. Once I started watching though, I fell in love, and can now call myself a huge fan.

Over the summer, I watched all four seasons of this hilarious sitcom starring one of my favorite comedic actors, Neil Patrick Harris. In the new season, he reprises his role as Barney Stintson, a man who plays woman for sport...but this time, with a bit of a twist; Barney's in love with Robin Scherbatsky, the Canadian gun enthusiast played to perfection by actress Cobie Smulders. The two of them trying to decide whether or not they are really ready for a relationship was the center of the season premiere, and once again, the show has managed to hit the ground running.

To make things just a bit more interesting, Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor) has taken a job as a professor of Architecture, and we found out last season that the mother is in his class, though the premiere seemed to be hinting at something otherwise...

To sum things up, this is a great show, filled with a huge number of laughs, and I'm pumped to see what the writers have in store for us this season. On to the next show....

Flashforward (Season 1)

Flashforward is among the fall newcomers, and I have to say, it's managed to peak my interests. Written and directed by David S. Goyer (Co-Writer of The Dark Knight, and writer of The Unborn), Flashforward is a series all about one moment, in which everyone on the face of the planet blacks out at the same time, and they all see a glimpse of their future, six months from now.

The pilot wasn't the best for a new series, but these days, it seems like each new show needs at least six episodes before it really gets you engaged, which could be a part of the reason why so many are getting canceled so quickly.

However, one small problem that I had with it, was that it all seemed very...LOSTish. The opening of the show resembles LOST quite a bit, the only difference being that instead of the polar bears, we get to see a kangaroo. Wonder how the're gonna explain that one...

It has a great cast behind it, and the pilot was enough to bring me back for episode 2, but I won't be too surprised if this is one of the casualties of the fall TV season.

Numb3rs (Season 6)

Ah, Numb3rs. I'm sorry, but Law and Order just couldn't do it for me after seeing this show. While yes, a lot of the time, it's next to impossible to understand what Charlie (David Krumholtz) is talking about, but they always explain it in the end, and it's always pure genius.

I think the thing that really sets this show apart from any of the other crime dramas (besides the fact that they solve crimes with math) is the shows great sense of character development. I was never really able to connect with any of the characters from Law and Order, but that's not the case here. We care about these people, and when they're in danger, we feel it. Last season was a great example, when Charlie's brother Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) was stabbed, and forced to take medical leave. We really felt for the guy.

While not an explosive premiere, it was definitely an entertaining one, and I look forward to seeing where they plan on going this season.

Anyway, that's everything that I'm really interested in this fall. Come back in a few days for the animated edition, where I'll be talking about FOX's Animation Domination line up...

This is so weird, I also discovered How I Met Your Mother this summer, and am now a big fan. I agree with your picks, and am curious about Flashforward (being a huge Lost fan).

Good post Palmer!
