Correct me if I'm wrong, but while they did exist within Japan at that time, samurai weren't actually using rifles 300 years prior to the 1860s (1560 and thereabouts).

Also nick, they did have a style of combat just like this in the LAST total war game, only that one sucks compaired to Shogun so most people forget about it.

Muskets were brought to the Islands in the early 15th century by Portuguese traders. Samurai did in fact use them, but not widely because Muskets of the day were widely unreliable when firing, it had nothing to do with honor.
