...and the winner for most batsh*t insane headline of the week goes to... 'Night at the Museum' director Shawn Levy has been back and forth with 20th Century Fox over their planned remake of 'Fantastic Voyage' even to the point where it's rumored that the director may back out of the project soon unless a big star or larger budget lands on the table. However, sources say that Levy may be forgoing the project entirely to work on another project for Fox - a Max Landis-scripted reimagining of 'Frankenstein'.
A synopsis of the script is not available, but insiders say that the new version of the classic Mary Shelley monster tale would revolve around a traveling circus of freaks, disfigured clowns, and motley sideshow attractions. Victor Frankenstein, instead of a mad scientist with a god complex, would instead be the Barnum-inspired ringleader of the circus who unveils his newest feature, Frankenstein's Monster, to the world. It's definitely a new and unique take on the source material, removing the more science fiction aspects of the book and replacing them with more of a 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' or 'The Elephant Man' style drama.
Eager to move ahead of the seven other Frankenstein projects that are currently in the works, Fox has entered into creative discussions for the film, aiming for a winter/spring release. Levy's most recent film, the rock-em-sock-em 'Real Steel' hits theaters on October 7th, while the director is currently working on the comedy 'Neighborhood Watch' starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill.

Comment by Gift of the Magi on August 26, 2011 at 7:23am I am all for original ideas and such...but taking someone else's work and doing 'your own spin on it' is NOT being original. It's a re-make at best and a rip-off at worst...and this project sounds like the worst.
Folks, being original means creating your OWN STORY AND NOT USING SOMEONE ELSE'S AS THE BASIS!
