As I'm sure you guys are aware of, Variety has reported that a Shadow of the Colossus movie is now in development. The story about a young man who is willing to do anything for love. Our hero goes to a forbidden land that holds a terrible power, hoping to revive his love back to life. He meets the god Dormin who promises that they will revive the girl if he defeats 16 colossi that hold Dormin's power.
The film is being penned by Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li's Justin Marks and produced by Scorpion King's Mark Misher. Oh yes, sounds very top notch to me. The guys have big ambitions, but those titles do not say much on this game. In fact, how does anyone even consider SotC filmable? There is very little story and the majority of the game is just a man and his horse. This is one of my favorite games, just thinking about the ending makes me teary-eyed everytime. I'm like many of you who want a video game based movie to be successful, but SotC is not that video game. If you are going to hope on any of these titles, Bioshock is the one as the director pulled out of a successful franchise to work on this. Gore Verbinski got the Japanese-horror-remake-to-American-translation right, he would probably be the one to pull this off.
No statement has been made from Team Ico, the development team behind SotC. If you would like to read the article, you can follow this link. http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/04/shadow-of-the-colossus-movie-in-development.html?query=Shadow
