Very nice review. Good to acknowledge that the series, though definitely guilty pleasure material and totally fanciful, was actually pretty well-made (and certainly well-acted). The most depressing thing about the films (particularly this one) is that, unlike some film adaptations of television, the characters are still so identifiable as the ones from the show; oftentimes, because of the change of writers or producers, the story and the characters take such a departure from the series' origin, if the movie sucks it's therefore easier to separate the two entities. But it's hard to shake these films off because they're actual continuations of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha's stories. I was (and still am) a big fan of the show, and I'm not going to see this film because it seems like a 2 hr+ manifestation of all the lamer traits and jokes of the original series. Just... why?

It would be so easy for a group of action flick-loving guys to rip this movie apart in the most obvious possible ways (the way virtually all other male internet reviewers of the movie probably are), but this was pretty well-rounded (most of the reviews are- except for when you start making midget jokes like for Death at a Funeral. Seriously, guys- people of Native American heritage don't number all that high, either, and nobody would dare make fun of them).

apparently some people have mistakenly associated female empowerment with boorishness, shallowness, shrillness, bitchiness, a few other negative "nesses" mixed with materialism and cultural imperialism. It's surprising that SATC is supposedly grounded in liberalism but has a rightwing intolerant patriotic streak a mile wide. I can see this being held up by those who hate America as a perfect example of everything that is wrong with America in their minds.
