Wayne posted a discussion'The Hunger Games,' one of 2012's most anticipated new films, is creeping closer and closer to its March release date. While we are still a couple of months removed from its arrival in theaters, we can satisfy our craving for director Gary Ross' sci-fi flick, based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, with these new images form the film. I like how the vastly different pictures create a nice cross section of the film without giving too much away. Take a look at the images below and let us know what you think.

Comment by K-Bomb on January 5, 2012 at 6:17pm @Pitbull: What are the Forin books? Are they any good?
I see the Running Man connection though, but it is pretty loose. The main character in the book actually CHOOSES to compete because he needs cash desperately, while in the movie, he is a (wrongly accused) criminal coerced into the game.
Plus, when you are a Running Man, you aren't supposed to kill or be killed... you just have to survive. Arnold just took it to that level because he's "Duh Tummy-netta" and he's "fun-TAHZ-dig."
Comment by Timmy Cupcakes on January 5, 2012 at 9:43am Read the first book over the weekend and must say it was only mediocre. The story in the hands of a better writer could have been much more exciting. It was obvious from the start of the games that every character besides Katniss is just fodder, either psychopathic, unable to survive by themselves, or unwilling to kill. all the events were a little too convenient as well. It could have used a little more complexity. Plus at points the frequency of the "romance" was vomit inducing.
The movie casting looks just as they were written with the exception of Haymitch, Effie, and Cinna. I was picturing Jeff Bridges when I read Haymitch, though I have steadily become a big fan of Woody Harrelson. The movie has a lot of potential to be better than the book. The book leaves out so much, as many of the more important events happen off screen. There's a lot of ways to cover those events more effectively in the film.

Comment by K-Bomb on January 4, 2012 at 10:19pm @Rabid Chicken: I agree it is definitely not a Battle Royale "copycat," but The Hunger Games absolutely and non-arguably has the same central premise of a government-ordered fight to the death involving only kids, and that deathmatch is meant to scare the general population from attempting a revolution. In THG, the ruthlessness of it gets you pissed off at the Panem government and really involved in the characters' safety -- even some of the kids from the other Districts. In BR, the situation is quite a bit different, and the number of kids participating against their will is much larger, so it is definitely its own thing.
So even though I'd never say Hunger Games is a Battle Royale "copycat," I have no problem comparing the two... and loving both books anyway. I loved the Battle Royale movies too (1 more than 2), and I hope Hunger Games is amazing.
