If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Fox's animated TV series 'Family Guy' is currently in its eleventh season, and it does appear to be slowing down. Show creator Seth MacFarlane seems to be prepping for a film version of his oddball New England family. Recently, when asked about whether we would definitely be seeing the Griffins on the big screen, MacFarlane said...
"It’s just a matter of when. It’s hard to do that while you have the series going on at the same time; I think that’s why it took The Simpsons20 seasons to figure out how to do it."
So a note of inevitability there, but what would this 'Family Guy' movie be about? Is there an actual script in place or even a general outline? MacFarlane had an answer for that as well...sort of.
"We do know what the Family Guy movie will be. The Simpsons movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it’s a story they probably could’ve done on TV. There could’ve been an episode that had that plotline. That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossibleto do on TV."
I cannot tell you how spectacularly unexcited I am about the idea of a 'Family Guy' movie. I enjoyed the show for years, even went so far as to defend it when my friends started falling off and lambasting it for being a poorly-written chore. But then I began to realize something truly disheartening: 'Family Guy' was becoming a poorly-written chore. Not only that, it was getting lazier and lazier; actually wearing its aggravating non sequitur joke construction like a badge of honor and pushing it to the point in which one cutaway joke would last ten minutes. What is far more unfortunate about this news is that MacFarlane's first feature film 'Ted' was surprisingly good. In fact, it seemed MacFarlane had found a renewed energy and creative spark working outside 'Family Guy,' a show that seemed to have him stuck in a rut. Despite my feelings on 'Family Guy,' I was really pulling for MacFarlane to continue in film and to keep coming up with original ideas. So now he's doing a 'Family Guy' movie, the basis for which is just to be more extreme than the show? This is a monumental step backwards.
What do you guys think? Could a 'Family Guy' movie work? Would you care to see it? Do you agree the show is a creative rut for MacFarlane?

Comment by GRIM on December 2, 2012 at 7:07pm If the movie is as funny and somewhat smart as the first four sesanes than i think it would work. but if there just trying to be more hardcore and disturbing than the show is now than i will say "no, go away"
Comment by Griffen Van Den Corput on December 2, 2012 at 1:59pm Am I the only one who remembered the fact that there has already been a Family Guy movie?
Never cared for that show.
Comment by Calvin on December 2, 2012 at 4:47am I guess I can see where a lot of people are coming from with their criticisms of Family Guy, but either they don't bother me or I don't see 'em because I've been watching Family Guy almost since it's started and have been a steady viewer throughout. I think what many people give as a criticism of the show is the cut-aways, which, mind you, don't always hit their mark, but I feel like it's one of the main reasons I like the show, it's funny, yet different and I like different.
I think a movie could work, I just don't know how I'd do it, but am interested to see whether or not it'll turn out to be another Simpsons "Movie" or an true blue film with everything that goes with that.
Comment by Nick Kroboth (Herr Daimyo) on December 2, 2012 at 3:04am Didn't he say a few times that he's sick of writing and doing the voices for Family Guy? And just does it because he's under contract and it makes a shit ton of money.
Comment by Obscene Otter on December 1, 2012 at 8:47pm Fuck that.
I haven't liked Family Guy since the end of it's third season. MacFarlane took a step in the right direction with Ted, and should continue with it, not this.
Comment by Wes Whiteside on December 1, 2012 at 7:08pm You mean TED wasn't a full length Family Guy movie?
