Theredknite posted a photoI was playing Final Fantasy Dissidia for the psp as the Onion Knight from FF3, when all of a sudden, something hit me like a ton of bricks. As much as I boast to people how the old school FF games are of a higher degree and are milestones far above the current FF games, (fuck the current ones except FF7 and FF9) I have never played FF3.
I have no idea why I have never played it. I think I've never played it because it never got rereleased for succeeding consoles or handhelds like the other old school ones, and I can't find the DS remake anywhere in stores.
So, I've decided to play the original on a NES emulator. I will be showing my progress of the game all the way to the end. I'm going in blind pretty much (kind of what Jeff and Jason do with their playthroughs.) I will do my playthrough in the style of Slowbeef's, creator of Lets Plays and Retsupurae, (watch the videos on the youtube channel, it's hilarious shit) with screenshots I took while playing the game.
If anyone wants to play it, you have to find an emulator (I prefer Nestopia or Jnes) and the original Japanese rom yourself. I will however provide you guys the links to the english patch and the tool you use to patch it.
The patch- http://www.zophar.net/translations/nes/english/final-fantasy-iii.html

With all that out of the way, join me on this epic adventure (hopefully), that is Final Fantasy 3!
Intro
I know it's the beginning of the game and it may sound like I'm bitching, but I got a question. What the fuck is a Gurgan?
Oh, how I miss those classic FF set-ups. But, enough about me being a nostalgia fag :P, time to name the characters!
Instead of giving them each a name that only a mouth breathing troglodyte would come up with, I decided to give them the names that are now officially canon, thanks to the DS remake. I named them in the order in which Wikipedia describes them, so who knows if I'm right. I know it seems pointless since the supposed girl character (Refia) looks exactly like the boy characters, but I just want to be a little professional with this LP as much as I can. Now, time to begin!

Pretty easy enemies. (It is the beginning after all.)
Police Officer: Mr. Gamefreak011, you were in a car crash. Your friends that were also in the car, are now gone. The people in the other car are a different story though. Where as the two kids are in critical condition, their parents however, did not make it.
Me: Oh, gosh darn it!
You see how using 50s slang doesn't really fit. Yeah, I know it's a 90s kids game but seriously, "Shucks"? Who would say that after falling into a cave full of monsters? Not only that, didn't the first six Final Fantasy games take place in the middle ages with elements of steampunk thrown in there? So, what's with the 50s slang?
I know it's due to the NES/Famicom graphical capabilities but doesn't it look like Luneth is going insane? I know he's talking to his friends but since you can't see them, (yet again due to the graphical prowess of the NES/Famicom) it would seem like he probably bumped his head and is now talking to himself. *crickets* Anyway... time to go up. Wait, what the...?
My first battle! Heh... easy stuff.
You know, if there are supposed to be four characters there, why isn't there ever a fourth line of dialogue? Is the fourth character brain dead or something?
So I got what appears to be a leather shield by looking at the icon next to "leather". I guess I'll give it to Luneth. The other chest had a potion.
If something looks "odd" why would you touch it? Whatever I'll let that slide. The other rock doesn't do anything. (I think)
Alright! Another shield! I'll give it to Arc, I guess. Time to go to the next floor.
The item SouthWind, I read, is actually meant to be Antarctic Wind. But hey, who am I to bitch at the translator. Also another potion. Time to go north.
Getting a little generous with the potions aren't ya, Square? Eh, whatever. Now, should I go left or right? Let's try right.
Okay, ya know what, I let the touching of the "odd" looking rock slide, but why in the fuck would you DRINK "odd" looking water?
-__- Not only that, it looks like plain, old, clear, blue tinted water to me.
So, the water heals you completely? Then, what's the point of having all those potions when you can heal yourself at the water? Also another SouthWind. Now to see what's on the left.
*Just going to do a couple of grinds before I go left though, just in case*
Hey a door! What will it lead me to? I'm going to guess an important event then a boss. Let's see if I'm right.
What a shocker. -__-
